Provide leadership to a group of manufacturing engineers, industrial engineers, process engineers, and maintenance technicians, responsible for a broad range of equipment, process, safety, quality, lean improvement projects across the value stream, as well as new equipment/process/part launch projects. Coordinate and prioritize project initiatives in support of the value stream’s Top 10 objectives; assign project leads for their successful implementation. Assume leadership roles for some projects as needed.
Manage team’s activities in support of value stream’s Top 10 objectives. Direct manufacturing/industrial engineering, process engineering and maintenance technicians team members to effectively support operation team’s needs for safety/quality/process improvements, equipment upgrades/rebuilds/layout changes, or new product/process needs.
Establish goals and measures for the engineering team to track performance in implementing projects on time, meeting established costs and performance criteria. Ensure the team uses sound engineering & project management principles across all their activities.
Participate in development of annual departmental operating budget and development of annual capital budget needs for new equipment/tooling investments. Oversee expenditures and continuously track and adjust spending to ensure performance to budget plan.
Assume project manger role as needed on certain projects as directed by the Value Stream Manager. Provide engineering technical support, analysis, and problem-solving skills to issues as needed.
Manage all personnel issues across the department including employee complaints and concerns, disciplinary activities, annual performance appraisals, training needs, and proper staffing levels. Ensure all Corporate & HR personnel policies and practices are understood and enforced.
Ensure engineering team procedures and practices comply with defined TS16949 and ISO14001 procedures and work instructions. Provide training in these requirements to staff as needed.
Provide a healthy and safe work place for employees by identifying and eliminating hazards.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required, preferably in Industrial or Mechanical engineering.
Three to five years in supervising/managing a diverse group of engineers, technical and maintenance team members.
Knowledge of general manufacturing processes normally acquired through 8+ years of progressively responsible related manufacturing experience.
Basic knowledge in mechanics, electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics, power transmission and equipment design.
Experience in a leadership role; guiding and directing a team towards a common goal.
Ability to positively influence and challenge team members to perform; experience in a mentorship role, developing new talent and ability to hold others accountable.
Analytical abilities necessary to plan and prioritize own work and that of the group; monitor and complete work on schedule.
Interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information with a variety of staff.
Knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements, such as OSHA standards, TS16949, and ISO 14001 policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
Demonstrated skills in the operation of various computer programs including Excel, Word, Project, Access and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of the core principles of lean manufacturing and waste reduction.
Trained in the use of problem-solving techniques.
