Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

The Engineer of Physical Tests (PCE I) position is located in Topeka KS within the Bureau of Construction and Materials with the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

The Engineer of Physical Test (PCE I) directs the Physical Test Section and has the ultimate responsibility for the Section's operation. This position must analyze and interpret test results to develop and ensure compliance with material specifications used by the entire department. Overall understanding of laboratory management and function are essential to the position and a clear understanding of materials science and how it relates to construction materials. This position makes recommendations of follow-up tests, compare the results with the applicable specifications, makes decisions to whether the material complies or whether the material should be rejected.

Qualifications:

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET (Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology) accredited engineering school .
Licensing & Certificate
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Professional Engineers License recognized by the State of Kansas.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering License recognized by the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions.
  • 5 years' experience working in a professional setting working with construction and/or materials.
  • 1 year of experience performing tests or direct oversight of testing.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience overseeing technicians.
  • Experience with math and statistics for analyzing data.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Engineering
  • 5 years of experience in testing materials
  • 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Preference will be given to those who have been in the Heavy Civil construction field and have experience testing construction materials.
  • Extensive laboratory experience is preferred.
