Job Description

General Function:

Provide installation services and technical support for advanced server/network-based telecommunications products in a fast paced demanding environment servicing the IT community. This individual will have experience in the installation and troubleshooting of server & networking technologies (Cisco, etc) as well as knowledge of telecommunications is a must; knowledge of databases and operating systems is beneficial.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Identify and analyze all or part of a component's existing or new peripheral, network, and telecommunications systems requirements, taking into consideration the special technology needs

  • Establish functional and technical specifications and standards, solve hardware and software interface problems, define input/output parameters, and ensure integration of the entire systems or subsystem

  • Work with other engineers, systems analysts, programmers, technicians, scientists and top-level managers in the design, testing and evaluation of systems

  • Test and evaluate hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing system, and make purchase recommendations

  • Provide frequent contact with customers, traceability within program documents, and the overall computing environment and architecture

  • Consult customers, visit workplaces or conduct surveys to determine present and future user needs

  • Manage and update the masterschedule

  • Ensure coordination and information flow occurs between all programs and organizational managers

  • Diagnose hardware and software problems, and replace defective components

  • Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations

  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement networksecurity measures to protect data, software, and hardware

  • Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records

  • Design, configure, and test computer hardware, networking software and operating system software

  • Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes

  • Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future

  • Train people in computer system use

  • Load computer tapes and disks, and install software and printer paper or forms

  • Gather data pertaining to customer needs, and use the information to identify, predict, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements

  • Analyze equipment performance records to determine the need for repair or replacement

  • Maintain logs related to network functions, as well as maintenance and repair records

  • Research new technology, and implement it or recommend its implementation

  • Maintain an inventory of parts for emergency repairs.

    Physical Demands

    General office environment

    Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Requirements

* Associates degree with a major in computers or hard science with 3 years of engineering experience. An additional 4 years of specific experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.

* Strong problem solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills

* Able to work independently or under only general supervision on moderately complex engineering and design tasks * Installation, configuration, and administration of Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows 10 platforms
