About our group:
Our group develops advanced concepts and designs for productization in Seagate’s hard drives. We utilize new and existing design concepts to meet the new product requirements. We also work closely with the drive design team to integrate the new design and solve design and manufacturing issues. We also work closely with external suppliers on design optimization and manufacturability challenges.
About the role - you will:
We are looking for an Electrical Research and Development Engineer to support development in the Recording Head Technology organization.
In this role you will:
Support the development of the electrical roadmap of the Trace Gimbal Assembly to define future requirements for electrical performance in coordination with transducer and preamp development teams.
Complete Reader SNR and system level modeling to identify design and feature improvements to support new performance and reliability requirements.
Design and optimize interconnect read / write signal paths for best in class signal integrity and high speed performance.
Collaborate with the transducer design teams to integrate new features and sensors into the recording system.
Develop solutions to meet the electrical performance and reliability roadmaps and demonstrate improvements through simulation and prototype development
Support new failure mode hypotheses and validation of solutions
Perform laboratory experiments to address performance and reliability issues and identify solutions
Collaborate with suppliers and supply chain to develop and mature design/material/process changes to meet performance and reliability requirements
Work cross-culturally and interface with teams at the drive design centers, factories and suppliers located all over the world.
About you:
Masters or PhD degree in physics or electrical engineering with 0-2 years of experience.
Solid understanding of magnetics, electro-physics and electronics
Background in analog electronics, transmission line theory and high speed signal integrity
Skills in both interconnect / system modeling and measurement
Ability to analyze and solve complex problems independently
Strong written and oral communication skills for coordination with the extended team and communicating issues and status to management.
Your experience includes:
Experience using ADS (Advance Design System) from Keysite or equivalent
Experience using ANSYS HFSS: High Frequency Electromagnetic Field Simulation
Experience in frequency domain :VNA and time domain TDR measurements techniques
Experience in the set-up and use of laboratory equipment, instrumentation, software.
Experience in optimizing interconnects for high speed performance and signal integrity
