Responsibilities

The Visible and Infrared Sensor Systems Department supports the design and deployment of electro-optical sensor payloads for civil, commercial, and national space systems. Our activities include: concept definition and mission-driven design-synthesis of electro-optical space sensors; detailed characterization and performance analysis of visible and infrared electro-optical detector arrays; design, assembly, integration, and test of ground and airborne prototype sensors; high-fidelity modeling and simulation of the performance of both individual electro-optical sensor and configurations of space and ground sensors. This posting is targeted in the area of electro-optical sensor systems engineering.

 

***This role can be filled as an Aerospace Senior Member of Technical Staff or Engineering Specialist***

 

Key Functions

  • Provide electro-optical expertise in the areas of Earth remote sensing, space situational awareness, and/or overhead persistent infrared
  • Provide oversight, guidance and technical advice on customer projects involving remote sensing
  • Support the development of new remote sensing concepts from modeling and simulation through design, construction, and testing of prototypes
  • Work with other engineers as a team member to solve multi-disciplinary problems
  • Interface frequently with program office and government personnel
  • This position is in El Segundo, California

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Degree from an accredited university in physics, electrical engineering, optical engineering, or another related field
  • A minimum of 5-years of experience, either in the workforce or in pursuit of an advanced degree
  • Experience in all phases of the sensor systems engineering lifecycle: concept development, requirements engineering, system design and development, systems integration, and test and evaluation
  • Experience with implementation of electro-optical hardware 
  • Experience using common processing languages such as MATLAB, IDL, C/C++, or Python to analyze data and implement solutions to problems in remote sensing
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have or be able to obtain an SCI security clearance
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 

 

Preferred

  • An advanced degree
  • Experience with electro-optical sensor calibration
  • Current and active DoD Security Clearance 

 

Required for consideration as an Engineering Specialist 

  • A minimum of 8-years of experience (either in the workforce or in pursuit of an advanced degree) in optical engineering
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and mentor more junior engineers.
  • Experience with field data collection campaigns
  • Experience in all phases of the sensor systems engineering lifecycle: concept development, requirements engineering, system design and development, systems integration, and test and evaluation
  • Experience with implementation of electro-optical hardware 
  • Experience using common processing languages such as MATLAB, IDL, C/C++, or Python to analyze data and implement solutions to problems in remote sensing
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have or be able to obtain an SCI security clearance
