Summary/Purpose
RK&K has an exciting opportunity in Hampton Roads, Richmond or Northern Virginia for a licensed professional engineer with five or more years of experience in the evaluation, design, commissioning and troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation and controls systems for water and wastewater transmission/conveyance, storage and treatment facilities and natural gas transmission facilities.
Basic Responsibilities/Functions
- Design, size, and select equipment used to monitor and control engineering systems for electrical design improvement projects
- Conduct technical evaluations to support planning and design related to instrumentation and control systems
- Prepare and review technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents
- Direct and assist with the development of project staff and subconsultants
- Facilitate internal and client meetings, presentations and approval of plans
- Support field services and investigations when required
- Facilitate construction administration and engineering services (submittal review, contract document interpretation, requests for information, correspondence, change requests and change orders) when required
- Prepare documentation and support startup and commissioning of new facilities
- Communicate effectively and coordinate with clients, utility owners, project teams including other disciplines, such as architects, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical designers, cost estimators, GIS technicians, other utility design professionals
- Prepare detailed engineering cost estimates
- Perform PLC programming
Required Technical and Functional Skills
- Demonstrated experience with the sizing, design, specification, construction and start-up of electrical power and instrumentation and control systems including stand by power, variable frequency drives and SCADA
- Direct experience pertaining to water distribution and sewer collection systems
- Proficiency with SCADA systems
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
- Demonstrated proficiency in organization and presentation of documentation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Suite including Word, Outlook, Project, Excel and PowerPoint, AutoCAD and Revit
Required Education and Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field
- Professional Engineering (P.E.) License
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of increasingly responsible, project experience in the study, design, and construction administration of water, wastewater and natural gas facilities
- A self-starter, versatile and interested in working on a variety of projects supporting our Water and Wastewater Group
- Ability to work with others to solve complex utility issues
Preferred Experience and Education
- Master’s degree
- Familiarity with electrical and mechanical building codes
- Assess facility Arc Flash protection requirements
- Ability to work with others to solve complex electrical and instrumentation and controls systems issues
- Proficient with AutoCAD and Building Information Modeling (BIM)
