Position: Senior Electrical Engineering Project Manager
Reporting Line: This role reports directly to the Director of Electrical Engineering.
Location and Travel Requirements: This position allows for remote work, with approximately 20% travel required across our network of facilities. Compensation will be adjusted based on location and remote work considerations.
Role Overview:The Senior Electrical Engineering Project Manager presents a unique opportunity to work with various stakeholders and departments, ensuring high organizational visibility and directly impacting our success. You will serve as the principal Electrical Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the business.
Key Focus Areas:- Electrical Design for Capital Projects and Facility Enhancements: Lead the electrical engineering design for major projects and facility improvements.
- Support for Planned Outages and Equipment Troubleshooting: Provide electrical design support during planned maintenance and address design-related equipment issues.
- Business Development Projects: Oversee electrical design for new projects and expansions across North America, including facilities focused on thermo-mechanical treatment, material processing, and metals recovery.
Responsibilities:- Electrical Design:
- Independently create, review, and approve electrical system design documents such as single-line and three-line diagrams, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and perform arc flash, short circuit, and voltage drop calculations.
- Develop scopes of work for Electrical Architecture and Engineering (AE) firms and coordinate with suppliers and contractors.
- Plan design tasks to ensure project completion within budget and on schedule.
- Serve as the technical lead and SME for small to medium capital projects.
- Engage in system design, scope development, engineering calculations, specifications, and risk assessments.
- Engineering Standards:
- Apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria with independent judgment to adapt and modify designs.
- Act as the custodian of key electrical design standards and specifications for the team.
- Periodically update design standards and specifications to align with industry best practices and regulatory changes.
- Commissioning and Startup:
- Offer design support to Project Managers for construction projects.
- Provide engineering assistance during the commissioning and installation phases of design projects.
- Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
- Support plant operations with electrical engineering design troubleshooting.
- Analyze the root causes of electrical failures and develop cost-effective technical solutions.
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- At least 15 years of electrical engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Ability to travel approximately 20% to various facilities.
Experience Required:- Expertise in High, Medium, and Low Voltage distribution systems and electrical power generation in large utility power plants or industrial co-generation facilities.
- Proficiency in handling multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision.
- Strong understanding of one-line and three-line diagrams, DC control schematics, wiring diagrams, and GA drawings related to interconnections, substations, power plants, and electrical components in process plants, including motors, MCCs, PDCs, and other equipment.
- Experience across all project phases, from conceptual system design and scoping to detailed design, equipment selection, testing, and startup problem resolution.
- Familiarity with substation, power plant, and process plant equipment, with voltage ranges from high voltage AC (>100kV) to low voltage (480V).
- Experience with medium voltage protective relaying schemes, including the development of relay settings. Experience with SEL relays is preferred.
- Proficiency with engineering software such as CAD/AutoCAD, ETAP, SKM Powertools, and SEL AcSELerator.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to analyze data, write technical reports, and create work packages to implement recommendations. Ability to manage multiple assignments effectively.
