Job Title: Electrical Engineer - Facility Rating and Modeling

Location: Rochester NY, Binghamton NY, Augusta, ME, or Orange CT

Reports to: Manager - Rating and Modeling

NY Salary Range: $102,000 to $120,000

Purpose


The Facility Rating and Modeling (RAM) Engineer is responsible for the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of Avangrid’s facility ratings databases and its standard methodology to ensure compliance with NERC FAC-008 and to document electric system upgrades to the Avangrid Transmission system. The engineer is responsible to review Ratings and Modeling (RAM) packages for accuracy and compliance to Avangrid standards and to requirements of Energy Reliability Organizations (EROs) to ensure that accurate facility ratings are documented and that are ultimately used as inputs to various databases and software that is used by many engineering and planning disciplines across Avangrid. Accurate facility ratings ensure that the modeling information is current and ultimately results in safe & reliable operation and planning of the Avangrid transmission network. Facility Rating and Modeling engineer is responsible to maintain and improve Avangrid Rating Methodology standards. The engineer will verify that all network projects & system upgrades meet the Ratings and Modeling (RAM) methodology, are complete, and coordinate the package review and concurrence of the stakeholders outlined in the Rating and Modeling approval process.

Responsibilities


  • Provide feedback, clarifications, technical direction to the RAM Initiators (engineering, electric system project teams, & electric operations) to assemble complete and accurate RAM packages.
  • Be a means of communication between the Initiator of the RAM process and the Approvers (Electric Operations, System Planning and System Protection & Control) in order to ensure that all stakeholders are aware of and concur with changes to the electric system when questions arise during development of the RAM package.
  • Upon assembling a complete RAM package, facilitate the review and concurrence of the defined Avangrid stakeholders via electronic signature.
  • Propose improvements to Avangrid’s rating calculation methodology and standards and taking the lead in implementing them.
  • Participate or represent the company in regulatory or public proceedings with EROs such as NERC, NPCC, ISO.
  • Ensure governance processes and procedures are followed.
  • Provide technical expertise on thermal ratings for new major equipment framework agreement contracts.
  • Provides technical advice to senior management when required.


Skills and Requirements


Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 years of experience in Engineering
  • Knowledge of FERC/NERC/NPCC and state regulations
  • Knowledge of Substation design and substation equipment
  • Knowledge of Electric system drawings and schematics
  • Familiarity with IEEE standards

Education & Experience Preferred:

  • Ampacity ratings of major substation equipment
  • Experience with PT load or other transformer rating methodology
  • Bus conductor ampacity calculations
  • Transmission line impedance calculations
  • Cable ampacity calculations
