Responsibilities

Aerospace is seeking a Corporate Director of Occupational Safety & Health and Emergency Management to direct and lead the development and implementation of relevant EHS programs and to assure program elements meet or exceed local, state and federal OSHA regulations, and Aerospace EHS practices, standards and guidelines. The essential functions of this position include leadership, planning, cross-functional-collaboration and coordination, and providing EHS expertise to ensure sound safety principles and technical information are used to identify potential EHS risks and associated solutions are executed.

The selected candidate will manage a growing group of 6-7 staff and contractors and report directly to the Associate Principal Director of Environmental, Health and Safety.

Key Functions

  • Provide oversight and direction to department staff, including goal setting, performance management, and career development.
  • Implement and mature agile work management processes within the group
  • Manage resources, including labor, capital, and overhead budget
  • Communicate effectively with senior management, peers, staff, and customers both inside and outside the corporation.
  • Guide leadership in setting and developing a strategic plan to achieve Enterprise EHS goals and objectives
  • Responsible for the planning, administration and management of all occupational safety and emergency management programs across the Enterprise
  • Develop and improve safety policies and procedures, research information on new trends and techniques for enhancing workplace safety, remain current on EHS issues through on-going review of literature, surveys, research and education.
  • Create and conduct EHS training and orientation programs to improve employee education and effectiveness, in accordance with site needs.
  • Compile track and trend extensive injury/illness data for the Enterprise, report findings and assist in the development of site-specific safety strategies.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate Enterprise relevant EHS metrics for reporting and action.
  • Participate in the review of capital and expansion projects to assure safety and health risks are understood and controlled.
  • Execute a risk management strategy to mitigate occupational safety and health risks through a systematic risk prioritization methodology
  • Establish and maintain proactive and positive working relationship with internal stakeholders, functional partners and appropriate regulatory agencies
  • Experience with leading an emergency management program and facilitation of desktop and hands on exercises

Qualifications

Required

  • 15 or more years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s Degree, or 13 or more years of relevant experience with a Master’s Degree
  • Experience with environmental, health, and safety best practices, standards, and methodologies

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of customers and corporate staff
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must work well in a team environment
  • Experience in Microsoft Office applications including work, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Strong technical background in occupational safety and health regulations
  • Experience with leading an emergency management program and facilitation of desktop and hands on exercises
  • Must be detail oriented, possess strong organizational skills and able to prioritize tasks and projects
  • Effective interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and work with other internal and external organizations
  • Strong team-building skills.
  • Intermittent traveling is required

Preferred

  • Advanced degrees in relevant disciplines a plus.
  • Professional Certifications preferred (e.g. CIH, CSP, CHMM)
