About the Position:

The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is transitioning to the Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA)

This position is located at the Office of the Director, Strategic and Organizational Excellence, Research, Planning and Monitoring Branch in Alexandria, Virginia.

Duties

Help

  • Develop, review, and/or oversee plans for rigorous education research that use advanced quantitative methods to address significant questions of education science, policy, or practice in K-12 education relevant to DoDEA's mission and goals.
  • Conduct rigorous K-12 education research and evaluation studies, including analyzing data arising from those activities using advanced statistical methods.
  • Write products arising from rigorous, quantitative studies to convey study findings to a variety of audiences and consult with staff across DoDEA on issues related to research, evaluation, and statistics.

Basic Requirement for Education Research Analyst:

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position, of which at least one course was in research methods and at least two courses were in statistics.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: At least 24 semester hours in a field related to the work of the position, of which at least one course was in research methods and at least two courses in statistics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience must have demonstrated (1) a thorough knowledge of the principles underlying the work of this position, and (2) understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the methods and techniques applied in performing work in this position.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Designing, conducting, and managing qualitative and/or quantitative research studies or program evaluations within an education or closely related field, including developing methodologies, collecting and analyzing data, and ensuring methodological rigor; and 2) Applying advanced statistical techniques and analytical tools to interpret data; preparing comprehensive statistical reports, summaries, visualizations, and dashboards that clearly communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences; and 3) Developing and delivering actionable, evidence-based recommendations to improve educational programs, policies, or systems; advising senior leadership and stakeholders on program effectiveness, outcomes, and strategies for continuous improvement; and 4) Manage cross-functional projects or initiatives and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., educators, policymakers, researchers) to integrate research findings into policy development, strategic planning, and operational decision-making processes.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification and Basic Requirement.
