Job description

Conduct analyses or studies on effects of different economic conditions on the company's products, assets, or investments. Identify and evaluate economic trends and their prospective effect on the markets in which the company's goods or service trade. Collaborate on product development, risk management, financial management and capital market projects and exercises with economic analysis and projections. May represent the company in trade associations, professional groups, or to the public.

Responsibilities of the Economist III

  • Lead analysis and assessment of both internal and vendor models used by the company to influence business decisions and financial/regulatory reporting in capital markets, assess and measure model risks, ensure the appropriate use of models, and refine model risk management policies and procedures.
  • Conduct theoretical and empirical research with public and proprietary data. Apply advanced mathematical, statistical, and econometric techniques in financial and economic modeling, particularly in the areas of term structure of interest rates, derivatives pricing, and/or prepayment, default, and severity.
  • Review proprietary financial systems for robust implementation of models.
  • Produce well-written model reviews on time, with high quality, rigor, and clarity. Communicate attributes of models and model reviews to a wide range of audience, including senior management, users, and regulators.
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships within and across divisions.

Qualifications of the Economist III


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent required
  • Ph.D. in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related quantitative fields highly preferred


  • 6+ years of related experience


  • Strong experience with fixed income modeling in capital markets area, including but not limited to prepayment, default, and severity models, term structure models, derivatives pricing, economic capital
  • Solid programming and data analysis skills, preferably in SAS, Matlab, and/or C++
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and inter-personal communication skills
  • Must be a team player
  • 6+ years of related experience
  • Ph.D. in Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related quantitative fields highly preferred

Compensation for the Economist III

  • Salary for the Economist III $118,000 - $206,000
