The Aerospace Corporation’s Digital Communications Implementation Department uses software define radio and FPGA technology to design digital transceivers.   We conduct our own research and development and in this position you can have the opportunity to innovate in algorithm design.  Join us on the leading edge of digital communications development.


Key Functions:

  •  Develop and implement signal processing algorithms with applications to GPS / GNSS receivers and/or communication transceivers and/or digital signal processing primarily on FPGA hardware.
  •  Analysis of signal processing performance using Matlab, Python, or similar simulation environments. 
  •  Prototype of cutting edge real-time systems for emulation and proof of concept. 
  •  Research pertaining to advanced signal processing, GPS technology and/or re-configurable communication processing. 
  •  Document work products in briefings and/or technical reports to customers and colleagues. 
  •  Candidate will work on a diverse set of projects. It is very important to be hands on, willing to learn and be comfortable in working in an environment with engineers of diverse backgrounds and expertise

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 
  •  Five or more years of experience (either in the workforce or in pursuing an advanced degree) in an area related to digital communication systems and/or digital signal processing.
  •  Experience implementing digital communication and/or DSP algorithms in hardware using FPGAs and/or ASICs.
  •  Proficiency in Verilog or VHDL, logic implementation, and simulation tools for complex FPGA designs.
  •  Proficiency in one or more of the following languages: Matlab, Python, or C.
  •  Detailed understanding of FPGA RTL design, hardware architecture, testbench design, synthesis, static timing analysis, timing closure, and clock domain crossing.
  •  Strong laboratory experience troubleshooting digital hardware designs using logic analyzers / Chipscope / other measurement devices.
  •  Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  •  This position requires the eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a clearance.



  • Graduate degree related to digital signal processing, or digital communications.
  •  Proven track record of the ability to design innovative DSP / communication algorithms at the concept phase and complete their realization in an FPGA hardware implementation. 
  •  A theoretical understanding of modern communication and digital signal processing techniques is highly desirable.
  •  Experience simulating communication systems in Matlab/Python. 
  •  Strong laboratory RF testing experience. 
  •  Experience with Matlab HDL Coder, High Level Synthesis, and SystemGenerator.
  •  Familiarity with GPS/GNSS and other localization technologies.
  •  Experience will full suite of Xilinx ISE/Vivado tools.
  •  Experience with software defined radio, embedded systems, GNURadio.
  •  Experience with Agile tools.


Qualifications for Engineering Specialist


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 
  •  8 or more years of experience (or pursuit of advanced degree) in an area of digital signal processing, GNSS positioning and navigation, alternative navigation techniques.
  •  Proficiency with any of the following: MATLAB, C/C++, Python, VHDL.
  •  Project leadership experience.
  •  System architecture experience.
