Duties and Responsibilities

The DSM must take full ownership of the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Act as a Sales Manager for the WRE business in the assigned territory
  • Ensure that timely, effective technical support, training, trouble shooting and distributor development programs are maintained
  • Develop a clear understanding of territory-distributor activity and end customer needs. Effectively communicate and document this information to WRE management
  • Secure a solid business development agenda for the assigned partners and distributors
  • Monitor and evaluate sales and distribution trends for the different products, carrying out market analysis to identify potential, opportunities, and variances
  • Participate in the formulation and implementation of remedial actions with existing partners and distributors
  • Build long-term collaborative relationships (Key Account approach) with key personnel and principals at inter territorial companies and distributors
  • Identify all major project activities and opportunities
  • Report sales performance and key activities on a weekly basis
  • Quantify, understand, and report Lost Sales activity such that WRE can develop commercial responses to prevent same in the future
  • Develop effective marketing programs in coordination with the marketing functions to maximize creation of new business opportunities
  • Provide formal market intelligence regarding competitive pricing and sales activity to WRE management
  • Participate fully in the waste recycling industrial community associations and societies
  • Participate in selected key account relationships, support and collaborative programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned by WRE management from time to time
  • Provide input to product strategy development and similar product management duties
  • Participate in fairs and trade shows to promote WRE offerings and to solicit for potential distributors and agents
  • Ensure high quality deliverables, responsiveness and professionalism
  • Demonstrate highly effective verbal and written communication skills


To successfully take on the duties of the DSM role, the following qualifications must be met:

  • Technical degree with in-depth commercial understanding, or commercial degree with in-depth technical understanding
  • Fluent in English (both oral and in writing), Spanish is an advantage
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in technical B2B sales of mobile equipment with own territory selling to large and small-scale distributors
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in developing new markets
  • Familiarity with the recycling industry, waste is an advantage
  • Understanding of core recycling processes and equipment is an advantage
  • Sound sales and distribution management expertise, good customer relation skills, ability to work within a team environment, mechanical aptitude, creativity, innovation, and ability to see the larger picture
  • A high level of self-confidence and the ability to make decisions
  • Understanding the distributors and end user business, their decision-making processes and operating principles to ensure that there is a fit between all organizations involved
  • Strong relationship building skills, a bias for action and detail-oriented behaviors are required
  • Highly motivated individual with the ability to work under pressure and meet the deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere despite being home office based with highly frequent traveling
  • Client skills including building and managing relationships, negotiation skills and understanding of customer needs and market requirements
  • Capable of effectively and accurately working on several projects at one time, and organizing, prioritizing tasks and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication, co-operation, interpersonal and presentation skills to manage internal and external interfaces
  • Proficient with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), CRM (Salesforce) and IT in general
  • Must have valid driver’s license; record in good standing

Working conditions

The DSM will assume his/her job with a home office location or alternatively with base at a Metso office in commuting distance. The DSM is expected to have significant travel activity – at least 150 days per year.

Other conditions

The job is regulated per normal standard contracts for white collar workers at Metso Grade 10 with a “Metso Bonus 1, sales” program.
