This position is responsible for ensuring the accurate recording of all revenue transactions related to products, services and promotions in accordance with US GAAP. This person will have an extensive US GAAP technical revenue accounting background in a multi-element environment and have a proven ability to foster proactive working relationships with cross-functional and global organizations.  The Director of Technical Revenue Accounting will provide leadership of the implementation of revenue accounting policies and procedures on a global basis. In addition, they will be responsible for building and developing the Technical Revenue Accounting team.



  • Ownership of worldwide revenue recognition in accordance with US GAAP
  • Ensure revenue accounting policies are documented and applied consistently on a worldwide basis
  • Lead contact for Marketing, Sales and Legal for assessment of revenue recognition impact of promotion programs and new product offerings
  • Analyze and assess new product and discount offerings for proper revenue recognition
  • Directly manage technical accounting team·Support transition to revenue standard ASC 606·Revenue Accounting contact for Sales, Marketing, FP&A and other business groups to understand and resolve revenue recognition issues; provide training and guidance as needed
  • Support VSOE, BESP, Volume Discounts and other revenue estimates·Develop and implement revenue training for new hires and other Finance teams
  • Draft financial statement disclosures related to deferred revenue and revenue
  • Prepare quarterly and annual revenue accounting position papers
  • Support quarterly earnings process including coordination with SEC Reporting and Investor Relations
  • Lead and manage SOX compliance for Revenue team
  • Key contact with external auditors to review accounting assessments and to manage quarterly and annual audits
  • Research and advise on changes in accounting guidance and the application to Align·Participate in special projects as required


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 10+ years of progressive experience - preferably a mix of  Big 4 accounting firm experience (preferably at the Manager level) and public companies with multiple, complex revenue streams in a high-growth environment; multi-national experience
  • Licensed CPA·Experience and in-depth knowledge of  revenue accounting related to multiple-element arrangements under ASU 2009-13 (EITF 08-1) and ASU 2009-14 (EITF 09-03), calculations and deferrals under ASC 985-605 (SOP 97-2) and accounting for customer discounts under ASC 605-50·Knowledge of ASC 606 and transitioning from 605 to 606
  • Ability to conduct technical accounting research and document findings
  • Excellent verbal, written, and listening skills as well as ability to effectively use accounting knowledge to collaborate, guide and interact professionally with a wide range of personnel at various levels within the organization to drive sound business decisions
  • Ability to effectively present information with confidence and accuracy to various levels of internal management and external auditors
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to adapt to change
  • Exceptional organizational skills, project managementexperience to include management of large-scale/global initiatives
  • Ability to train and develop employees
  • Matrix leadership experience of direct reports and cross-functional teams (Finance, Marketing, and Legal)
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and high pressure situations, while problem solving and effectively multi-tasking to arrive at the correct resolutions
  • Strong knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, including the ability to assess, develop and implement internal controls related to revenue and deferred revenue
  • Experience with larger ERP systems (SAP) and related data across a global business·Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
