Position Summary

The Director / Senior Director, Proposals provides strategic leadership of the proposal process to deliver high-quality, winning proposals. Formulates proposal strategies and establishes and develops and maintains effective proposal processes. The role leads, develops and provides oversight for the proposals team and ensures timely and accurate responses to complex RFPs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Collaborate with senior leaders, business unit management teams and subject matter experts to provide proposal leadership, support, and overall direction for the enterprise proposal process
  • Develop and implement innovative proposal strategies to support corporate business objectives
  • Responsible for assessing and ensuring compelling, complete, and compliant proposal responses that reflect our win strategy elements, customer value propositions and alignment to evaluation factors
  • Lead proposal strategy reviews, ensuring win themes and messaging are incorporated into proposals
  • Review proposal content, and monitor quality of writing
  • Develop and maintain proposal schedules, and drive the proposal team’s adherence to the schedule
  • Maintain proactive communication with proposal and business unit leadership to ensure all necessary resources are available to achieve a successful proposal submission
  • Lead the development and maintenance of the proposal archival/library system to ensure proper and effective storage and retrieval of proposals, past performance information, presentations, proposal development tools and templates, and market intelligence
  • Educate proposal team on writing, editing, researching and updating of the proposal library
  • Develop and maintain style guide of standard RFP language. Responsible for RFP and team metrics to ensure corporate, business unit, team and individual performance metrics are achieved
  • Provide hands on proposal management of strategic/high priority proposals
  • Prioritize and oversee continuous improvement projects that enhance proposal operations
  • Stay current on the latest proposal development tools and best practices
  • Prepare and manage annual department budget

Education and/or Experience

For consideration, candidates will need a Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university along with fifteen (15) plus years of job related experience in bids and proposals; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A degree in Marketing, Business, English, Journalism or Communications is preferred. Experience overseeing high volume proposal operations is required.

Computer Skills

Intermediate to advanced skill set in MS Office; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and Outlook

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

APMP or National Contract Management Association certification preferred

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive writing experience in a sales proposal environment
  • In depth knowledge of pharmacy benefit management or managed care
  • Five years prior management experience with excellent analytical skills and the ability to manage and facilitate progressive change
  • Ability to work and lead in a fast paced environment under tight deadlines
