The Director of SEC Reporting and Commission Accounting reports to the Assistant Controller and will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity, consistency and application of GAAP world wide, including accounting policies, practices, and systems. He/she will be a key member of the financial team at Fortinet, and will take on a wide range of responsibilities and work in a number of areas, including SEC Reporting, M&A support, equity investments, real estate investments, treasury and stock comp as well as a variety of ad hoc projects. The successful applicant will lead the Company’s filing of various SEC documents such as Form 10K, 10Q, 8Ks, and other ad hoc filings, including Investor Presentations. He or she will also prepare internal management presentations for members of the Audit Committee and executive team. In addition to reporting, this position offers the opportunity to leverage an extensive background of technical accounting and SOX with the intensity, dynamics and rapid change of a high-growth technology company. This individual will have the capacity to drive reporting and technical excellence, while supporting the development of practical business processes and solutions. The Director of SEC Reporting will have a background in applying and teaching others about new GAAP as well as existing GAAP requirements, be detail oriented and have strong organizational and relationship building skills. This position requires matrix management and strong communication capabilities to educate finance and non- finance personnel.
o Bring leadership and vision to all aspects of accounting, reporting, processes and SEC compliance.
o Responsible for timely preparation and filing of annual and periodic SEC filings on Forms 10-K and 10-Q, including review of SEC filing timeline, supervise data gathering process, updates to document specifically around new disclosures and MD&A sections, review of EDGARization and XBRL tagging.
o Responsible for the timely review of other SEC filings on Forms 8-K and S-8, working with legal team as needed. Review in conjunction with legal of the annual proxy statement.
o Responsible for the quarterly Audit Committee packages, press releases and financial statements, earnings conference call scripts and other financial data summaries for investor relations including analyst presentations and responses to financial questions.
o Proactively lead the analytical process of comparing disclosures of competitors or other technology companies in order to improve consistency and comparability. Work with legal, investor relations and management to assess potential changes/improvements and lead the preparation of disclosures.
o Preparation or review of US GAAP and SEC disclosure checklists to ensure compliance of external financial statements and disclosures.
o Proactively monitor current FASB and SEC activities and evaluate the impact of adopting new accounting standards.
· Accounting and Compliance
o Be responsible for updating research and analysis of ASC 606 Commissions & Disclosures, and other technical accounting issues and their application to internal and external reporting. Summarize the resulting analysis and conclusion for both executive review and to record in the general ledger. This will include annual calculation of key assumptions relevant to ASC 606 commissions accounting, testing of key reports for completeness and accuracy, booking journal entries, and providing the SEC reporting team relevant disclosure support.
o Account for share-based compensation arrangements, including valuation of awards and calculation, analysis and benchmarking of expense.
o Responsible for the statements of cash flow, earnings per share, and equity roll-forward.
o Responsible for effectiveness of internal controls where identified as a process owner; implement and maintain reporting procedures to comply with internal control requirements.
o Support the relationship and work product of Company’s external auditors (Deloitte).
• Operational and Strategic
o Work with the Director of Technical Accounting, Assistant Controller, and Controller to set priorities and work with senior management and the regional teams on various initiatives.
o Conduct cross-functional trainings on accounting policies, etc
o Assist with other special projects, as required
o Support with the preparation of quarterly audit committee presentations, other audit committee related reports, and external investor presentations
o Effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, third party service providers, including external auditors
o Provide accounting/disclosure advice to world-wide finance personnel
o Develop and maintain working relationships across Finance, Legal, Investor Relations, and other organizations.

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
At least 10 years of experience with at least 6 years of experience at Big 4 public accounting firm, preferred.
