Oceaneering is seeking a Senior Director Robotics & Automation Strategy, a new Group formed within the company to address opportunities in worldwide mobile robotics.  Leveraging Oceaneering’s strengths in systems engineering, robotics, semi-autonomous vehicle technology and systems integration, the Robotics and Automation Group is already active in several markets including automotive, health care, and industrial. The Group is comprised of two existing businesses, Oceaneering Entertainment Systems (OES) which focuses on entertainment ride systems and OASYS which focuses on the production and installation of Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) systems.  The Group reports into the ADTECH division of Oceaneering, located in Hanover, MD.



Position Summary

The Director Robotics & Automation Strategy will support the VP Mobile Robotics with developing and implementing a growth strategy for the business.  He or she will be responsible for market analysis, strategic and business planning, competitive benchmarking, technology road mapping, product development processes, customer requirements gathering, and other business analytics related to strategy development and execution for the ADTECH’s R&A portfolio. He or she will also support strategic business development campaigns and acquisition campaigns, as well as other initiatives in support of the development and execution of the R&A portfolio.



Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Manage strategic pursuits and coordinate cross-business unit personnel
  • Continue to iterate the strategic plan for the commercial, terrestrial robotics & automation portfolio
  • Assist the individual business management teams at OES and OASYS with their own business plan development
  • Work with OES and OASYS business development teams to develop market capture plans that clarify and prioritize existing markets, and analyze and identify new vertical markets in which the company can participate
  • Assist the two business management teams with necessary analyses to assess business health, including profitability analysis, pricing strategy, project performance, and benchmarking where appropriate
  • Develop and lead processes to assist businesses make decisions in the areas of project/product pricing, market entry strategies, account management, market prioritization, and organizational structure
  • Assist OES and OASYS business development teams to develop and iterate strategic account plans for the lead accounts in each targeted vertical market
  • Work with ADTECH and business unit technical leads to develop technology roadmaps that support the business and Group growth strategies in mobile robotics
  • Assist technical leads to develop business cases for future development efforts
  • Identify and assess potential business partners and acquisition candidates to meet growth and business objectives of the two existing businesses, including systems integration companies, mobile robotics companies, control software companies, and other businesses that offer Oceaneering a competitive advantage
  • Lead projects and tiger teams focused around specific business issues needing resolution
  • Identify and prioritize new product opportunities by attending customer and prospect meetings, researching new market segments, and attending conferences and industry events
  • Evaluate sales pipeline to uncover trends and new opportunities
  • Understand metrics that drive business success and develop processes to track and improve them
  • Create presentations to keep senior management informed of progress and issues
  • Serve as trusted advisor to business general managers
  • Other duties as assigned

 



Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • 15+ years of general management and/or business consulting experience
  • Experience working with industrialtechnologies, robotics & automation, and/or software-driven businesses
  • Comfort and experience working with unstructured problems
  • Experience working in fast-growth commercial businesses
  • MBA from top-tier school
  • Past P&L responsibility and consulting experience a plus
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills



Additional Information

  • Position will be based in Hanover, MD and/or Arlington, VA
  • Travel requirements will likely include 5-10 days per month

 

Working Conditions

This position is considered OFFICE WORK which is characterized as follows.

  • Almost exclusively indoors during the day and occasionally at night
  • Occasional exposure to airborne dust in the work place
  • Work surface is stable (flat)
  • Requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions
