The Risk Management function works closely with OnDeck’s Revenue, Product, and Finance teams to ensure that our business and risk are optimized to meet OnDeck’s target.  The primary responsibilities of a Director is the ownership of a project pipeline focused on improving OnDeck’s credit risk management strategies, models, and capabilities.  This includes developing the vision and frameworks behind our Product & Process Design, Risk Models, Approve / Decline strategies, Initial Line Assignment, Line Management, Draw Authorization, Collections, and Cross-Sell rules and policies.  Progress will be achieved through developing and executing on this project plan and working collaboratively with our business partners.  Success will be measured on the basis of overall portfolio profitability and risk, strategy-specific KPIs, the robustness, nimbleness, and statistical rigor of successful initiatives, and the holistic contribution to company culture and long-term strategy. 

As a Director on the Risk Management team at OnDeck, you will:

  • Manage a project roadmap designed to improve risk strategies, statistical models, and controls across our full suite of products, geographic markets, and stages of the customer lifecycle
  • Lead projects and initiatives to develop and improve upon best-in-class risk management capabilities. This will include diverse areas such as underwriting and exposure management, pricing, credit scorecard development, model validation, and loss forecasting.
  • Hire, train, and mentor a growing team of risk analysts. Develop learning plans, conduct training sessions, and act in a mentorship role
  • Work withrisk analysts to interpret business reports and conduct analyses to monitor, assess, and improve risk management strategies, business profitability initiatives, and customer experience
  • Design frameworks, policies, and algorithms that enable the efficient processing of credit risk management decisions
  • Work with Product, Revenue, Finance, and Technology teams to build out new risk management capabilities and refine existing ones
  • Help foster a culture of empirical rigor and prudent risk management across the business

Necessary qualifications for success:

  • 7 to 10 years of related experience in consumer or commercial lending in a Credit Risk Management, Business Analytics, or Finance functional area
  • 2-4years managing and mentoring teams of business analysts, data modelers, or data scientists
  • Strong project management skills, as demonstrated by a history of taking on increasing responsibility
  • Excellent credit judgment and risk assessment as demonstrated by previous experience in developing lending customer acquisitions and/or portfolio management strategies
  • Strong Analytical and Problem Solving Skills as demonstrated by previous experience in developing creative solutions to business strategy, technological, and operational problems
  • Knowledge and experience with statistical concepts and financial analytics (break-even analysis, NPV estimation, downside risk assessment)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Desire to help small businesses by eliminating inefficiencies and excessive costs in the lending business
  • Comfort in a highly visible role that is a key contributor to OnDeck’s continued success
