While directly reporting to the Vice President of Government and Industry Affairs, you will lead the identification, creation, and execution of regulatory and product standard and testing setting strategies that will both inform and advance the company’s strategic business objectives. You will provide engineering and policy analysis to business unit leaders to assist in advancing the Company’s business objectives in front of U.S. and international governmental bodies, and non-governmental organizations.
This position would ideally be located in DC, yet we are open to considering Milwaukee, California or Nashville. Relocation assistance is available for highly qualified candidates. Travel up to 30% may be required.
Role Specific Responsibilities
- Lead regulatory and policy analysis, as well as corporate presentations and official governmental submissions (e.g. notice and comment rulemakings and as well as comments to standard setting organizations) on proposed product standards and test procedures at the international, federal (e.g. Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency), and state/ local governmental level (e.g. California Energy Commission) impacting water and space heating technology and products.
- Coordinate and assist Corporate Technology, Product Engineering, and Product Management teams with analyzing, assessing, and ensuring compliance with current regulatory standards (e.g. energy conservation standards and test procedures).
- Provide product engineering and regulatory recommendations to ensure strategic alignment between product road-mapping and future public policy and regulatory initiatives at the international, federal, state/local governmental level that will impact product development.
- Lead the Company’s regulatory engineering strategy and representation at technical and standard setting committees
- Assist Product Engineering Certification teams with new standards and requirements to ensure all products are properly certified with international and U.S. governmental certification requirements.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Masters is a plus.
- Private sector and/or public sector experience in which he/she developed and interpreted regulatory standards, including test procedures and energy conservation standards for water heating/filtration, appliances or related products. This would include experience working with the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Laboratories.
- Regulatory development and interpretation experience with countries outside of the United States (e.g. Canada, Mexico, E.U., Middle East).
- Experience and relationships with Code setting organizations such as the International Code Council, ASHRAE, as well as safety standard organizations such ANSI and UL.
- Experience with certifying appliances or similar products with regulatory bodies, including, but not limited to the U.S. Department of Energy, the State of California, international regulatory bodies, and third party testing laboratories and certification organizations (e.g. UL, Intertek, CSA, and AHRI).
