The Purchasing Director is responsible for developing and executing the overall purchasing strategy in support of JNA’s Business Segments. This involves purchasing products at the best total cost, while meeting quality and delivery performance requirements. JNA annual purchases total approximately $1B.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
Develop and execute the North American commodity strategies. Drive tactical implementation.
Develop annual business plans including tactical plan, component forecasts, projected volumes, price evolution...
Manage supplier relationships including negotiations of commercial terms and conditions.
Develop commodity knowledge, market understanding and competitor benchmark. Define and track key indicators regarding market data, pricing, spend and volume information.
Supply chain improvement
Generate and implement continuous improvement ideas having a positive impact on the supply chains (prices, lead-times, inventory levels, cash management, quality and on-time delivery).
Develop and implement tactics to achieve Business Unit cost reduction objectives.
New product development
Develop new supply chains that will support North American growth initiatives for existing and new product lines.
Define lean supply chains and establish commercial agreements.
Facilitate relationships between suppliers and Koyo/JTEKT application and design departments to support new product developments and new product safe launches.
This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for 7 purchasing managers:
3 Direct Material Purchasing Managers
1 Indirect Material Purchasing Manager
1 Purchasing Manager of the Mexico based team
1 SAE Manager
1 Purchasing Administration Manager
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strategic skills: Business acumen of the relevant commodities, automotive and industrial markets. Experience with purchasing tools; Cost analysis; Creativity and planning skills.
Leadership and Management skills: Ability to build teams, develop team members and lead purchasing associates. Ability to delegate and assign short and long term objectives. Drive execution of projects. Provide feedback, perform evaluation.
Relationship Skills: Credibility with stakeholders, active listening ability, consensus-building skills, influencing and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to delegate work and motivate team members. Also able to build and maintain long distance, multi-cultural relationships with key suppliers and internal colleagues.
Subject Matter Expertise: Knowledge of numerous manufacturing processes to include: forging, stamping, machining and forming processes. Ability to develop deep understanding of cost drivers and market conditions. Understanding of technical / regulatory environment.
Education and Experience:
Education: 4 year degree (Business or Engineering preferred).
Minimum total of 10 year experience combining technical and commercial skills and experience.
Commercial experience: Purchasing, sales, marketing.
Technical experience: 7 years minimum in a medium to high volume automotive or industrial environment. Minimum 4 year experience with manufacturing processes noted above (purchasing, engineering, metallurgy, sales…).
