Develop internal capacity to conduct higher level biostatistical analysis and maximize potential of new and existing data sources; maximize data utilization through analytic methods including, but not limited to, regression procedures, trend analysis, small area analysis, and subpopulation analysis
Build upon existing population health data infrastructure: further develop analytical tools, recruit additional data sources, provide data and analytic quality assurance, and develop SAS templates for analysis
Develop data quality assurance procedures and protocols, and provide analytical mentoring and technical assistance pertaining to data quality and management to epidemiologists
Design innovative analyses to illuminate health status issues for planning and policy development
Use secondary data to conduct research on relevant public health issues to inform policy and planning
Transform raw data sets to analyzable data sources and create an environment to support analysis by epidemiologists
Build staff capacity to develop expertise in population health data analysis and content areas including complex survey data, vital statistics data, and substance abuse data
Oversee maintenance of population health data dashboard
Manage Boston Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System
Write and edit Boston resident public health reports
Prepare present Boston health data analyses to a variety of audiences and stakeholders
Supervise epidemiologists and SAS programmers; ensure growth of staff capacity and analytic skills
Work with other city and state agencies on analyses of health status and population data.
Attend BPHC, city, state and other health status meetings as assigned.
Work in a confidential capacity with the Director. Meet regularly with Director(s) regarding program needs. Operate independently. Use independent judgment and discretion to make decisions affecting the department and staff as it relates to unit operations/services and BPHC policy. Make and recommend management and personnel decisions for department, including but not limited to promotion, transfer and assignment of staff, and imposition of discipline.
Performs related duties as required.
Masters' Degree in Public Health with concentration in epidemiology or biostatistics plus seven (7) years of equivalent experience required OR BA/BS with ten (10) years of relevant experience
Minimum two years of direct supervisory and management experience required.
Excellent knowledge of public health issues including understanding of public health policy &/or implementation of public health issues.
Excellent knowledge of SAS, including a command of macros, arrays, and utilizing the ODS required.
Minimum eight years' experience using SAS or other statistical analysis package required.
Experience analyzing large datasets required.
Excellent knowledge of epidemiologic methods, biostatistics.
Excellent written and oral communication skills required with writing samples to demonstrate.
Experience conducting comprehensive searches of the peer-reviewed literature.
Organizational skills necessary, including experience producing reports.
Knowledge of health statistics, evaluation and research methodologies, and excellent quantitative skills essential.
Experience working with community groups and knowledge of Boston neighborhoods preferred.
Ability to work with diverse groups essential.
