Overview of Position

The Director, Professional Services (“PS”) is focused on selling and the successful delivery of MapR professional services across the assigned regions. The PS team is responsible for the design and delivery of technical solutions, consulting services and helping MapR’s customers solve their big data challenges.

The Director, PS is responsible for:

  • Ensuring that our customers are consistently delighted with the PS delivery experience
  • Meeting & exceeding PS revenue objectives
  • Scoping and estimating projects, preparing and presenting proposals and statements of work as well as services contract negotiations
  • Working with regional and area Sales Leaders to ensure our sales reps are supported
  • Developing, mentoring and coaching the PS teams to ensure they are working at the optimum level
  • Identifying obstructions to success and facilitating solutions

Required Background:

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of meeting or exceeding professional services revenue goals as well as leading, managing, coaching and mentoring technical customer-facing resources. At least five years’ experience in this role is required, with a demonstrated track record of success.

The candidate we are seeking is driven, focused, and highly process-oriented; the candidate must drive towards the plan, but also must recognize when the plan needs to be adapted. The candidate must be highly organized and ideally should have a track record of taking an organization to the next stage of growth and maturity. The candidate should believe in leading by example and have a strong ability to inspire and motivate his or her team to success. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must.

MapR is all about working with data, so experience with big data technologies, database, data warehousing, business intelligence (BI) and ETL systems is strongly desired. An understanding of distributed systems technology based on Linux platforms is desirable. Significant travel within the region will be required. Superior communication and relationship-development skills are a must.

Key Accountabilities:

Meet or exceed revenue targets for a given territory, in conjunction with the Sales team in the region. This position reports directly to the North America VP of Professional Services and is also accountable to regional and area Sales management.

Education and Experience:

  • At least five years’ experience managing a PS or SE organization, preferably more, with a provable track record of success is required
  • Experience with enterprise-scale database, data warehousing, business intelligence, ETL and/or data modeling solutions is highly desirable
  • BA/BS in a technical discipline is desirable but not necessary.
