Job Description

This position has product responsibility for entire Business Unit product suite or complete product family.  Responsible for the strategic product plan, including product development, pricing, salessupport and bottom line sales and operating income. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for formulating plans and recommending programs and policies to achieve maximum new product development plans and products within realistic time frames that will contribute to the future leadership and growth of the company

  • Manage/direct traditional product Management functions regarding the improvement of mature/existing product performance for the Business Unit 

  • Conduct research and analysis required for PAC, e.g. economic justification, competitive pricing, EAUS, financial models, features and applications, packaging, etc.

  • Manage all elements of the product development process, including product specification, packaging, pricing, and phase out / phase in plans

  • Counsels and assists the members of Operations, Engineering, Product Management and other departmental heads to optimize the effectiveness of all efforts towards achieving the best level of profitable sales of new products. This involves all aspects of policies and programs, which are directed to new products for new or existing markets

  • Establish measurement and review procedures for new product development and monitoring of performance against new products. Periodically review performance on new products (up to 3years) and report to VP/GM

  • In conjunction with the Marketing and Sales Teams, acquire and maintain a high awareness of activities of competitors and keep top management informed on:

  • Existing competitors’ new products

  • New competitors and new products

  • Major changes to competitors’ existing/new products in term of pricing/positioning strategies

  • Attend sales meetings and visit customers and end-users; conducting product training presentations and research as needed

  • Attend national and international trade shows and fairs that relate to new product development relevant to Leviton’s current/future product strategies

  • Responsible for ongoing identification of technology and market trends, updating and/or altering business unit strategy accordingly

  • Identify alliance and acquisition target companies that support business unit strategy.  Develop business case and supporting analysis and presentations to promptly rule in or out as a target

  • Work with e-Business, Retail, DistributionSales, Lighting Agents, National Accounts; Mexico, Canada and International as needed to make assigned business successful

  • Develop new product launch material with Marketing 

     

    Education & Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or business field is required. Master’s degreepreferred 

  • 15years’ business experience, with previous experience as a Product Manager

     

    Skills & Abilities:

  • A highly developed level of creative skills and resourcefulness to manage the product function is required

  • Must be able to apply critical thinking skills to determine best approach to bring new products to market and to work with engineering, operations and marketing and sales staff

  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Must be self-reliant

  • Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with customers that lead to the sale of products

  • Ability to organize and manage “ad-hoc” teams to support the development of business opportunities

  • Acumen in executing business decisions

  • Ability to work in a highly confidential work environment

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications
