Under general supervision of the National Vice President, Native Services Unit, the NVP, is responsible for the direction and management of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Native Services. The Director, Native Services Unit is responsible for providing consultation and support services to Native member organizations; implementing consultation services based on the field services success equation, with the objectives of building effective tribal relationships, Boards with greater leadership, stronger Club organizational staff with a depth of leadership, dynamic programs and outcomes, and increased organizational resource development capacity. This position will interpret the goals and objectives of Boys & Girls Clubs of America to Native member organizations taking into consideration culture and history to ensure organizational sustainability and support for all services within Native organizations
Provide Accountable Leadership to Autonomous Organizations
• Establish partner relationships with tribal leaders and council members, Board Chairs, Chief Executive Officer and Board members in assigned service area and conduct orientations on services and resources available from BGCA.
• Assist in ensuring that programs and services from BGCA to local Native Youth organizations are ethnically and culturally sensitive.
• Provide support to the Native Advisory Committee “NAC” and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian Country.
• Promote child safety priorities and resources to local organization within the scope of this position; report any observed or suspected child safety concerns directly to the organization’s leadership and to the appropriate BGCA senior leader.
• Conduct Child & Club safety assessments, as determined by Child & Club Safety. Submit and monitor organization-specific remediation plans with local Club leaders.
Upon request, respond immediately to local Child Safety situations.
Increase Organizational Capabilities
• Assist in building boards, tribal relationships and organizational capacity by working with key tribal/board leaders as a partner, coach and collaborator to enhance the board development process.
• Promote attendance of organization and tribal leaders to appropriate Area Council, state, regional and national conferences and trainings.
• Provide consultative technical assistance and coordinate the use of various BGCA departments to assist Clubs in assigned service area.
• Actively provide support and resources to Boards of Directors and tribal leaders in filling chief executive officer vacancies. Promote and support the implementation of organizational financial management systems and provide appropriate follow up.
• Conduct trainings/workshops on Native Club development and sustainability at conferences and Native training venues.
• Assist each organization in developing and implementing a programmatic outcome-driven strategy with daily data that drives the Formula for Impact with regards to tribal customs and traditions.
• Ensure organizations understand and implement key performance indicators into programmatic and organizational decisions.
• Assist in the development and facilitation of a Native Advanced Leadership Program and other Native Services trainings.
• Assist in the development and facilitation of a New Executive Orientation for Native CEO leaders.
• Develop and support a national annual Native Summit.
• Assist in the identification, training and deployment of Native Services National Training Associates.
• Assist organizations in developing a deeper understanding of resource development required to raise diverse resources to achieve strategic goals.
• Provide grants management trainings at regional and national forums.
• Support Strategic Growth and Increase Impact
• Provide on-site and off-site support and technical assistance to communities assuring the establishment of new, self-sustaining Boys & Girls Clubs of Indian Country in accordance with BGCA requirements for membership.
• Assist organizations to increase and accurately document the number of members and youth served.
• Assist organizations in developing a plan to recruit and retain members and a plan to increase average daily attendance (ADA).
• Translate growth objectives and help build organizational capacity to support an outcome-based impact agenda.
• Develop a growth map based on current and potential new Native organizations and sites.
• Develop a plan for mergers where appropriate and feasible.
• Manage Business Operations of Service
• Conduct and/or participate in state, regional, and national staff meetings, Native Summits and conferences.
• Conduct one face-to-face meeting annually; validate core standards/priorities and develop a remediation plan as needed.
• Assist with other projects and assignments as requested by the National Vice President , Native Services Unit.
• Demonstrate BGCA mission driven I*CARE values and integrate these beliefs into our environment and ways of work.
• No direct Reports. May monitor and coordinate the work of temporary employees and student interns.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or social services or education/experience equivalency required.
• Minimum of five years’ experience in the management, administration and operation of a Native organization of a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization.
• Demonstrated successful experience with board development and management and resource development
• A solid understanding of Tribal sovereignty and governance and the diversity of different Tribe dynamics.
• Demonstrated ability to use and adapt to ever-changing technologies including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook and the ability to efficiently use technology when traveling.
• High energy level, comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities. Superior interpersonal abilities. Ability to get along with diverse personalities, at all times displaying tact, maturity and flexibility. Must have good reasoning abilities and sound judgment. Physical requirements include sight, hearing, sitting for four plus hours per day. Skills essential for successful communications include speaking and writing. Must be physically able to travel by air, car, train, or other modes of transportation.
ENVIRONMENTAL & WORKING CONDITIONS
• Normal internal working environment.
• Approximately 60-70% travel can be up to 12 – 14 days or more in a month – including weekends - depending upon scheduling requirements).
• The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to navigate areas of the country by using a map or other direction methods.
