The Director of Transportation Safety establishes functional policies and makes tactical decisions, within overall strategic direction, with top management guidance; solves complex technical or strategic problems, applies technology or business approaches in new ways; develops and recommends new alternatives; regular interaction to communicate or negotiate basic agreements, requiring considerable tact, sense of timing and the ability to engender trust, plus sensitivity to diverse audiences.

The Director will manage and oversee to ensure compliance with FMCSA regulations and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Review pending and upcoming changes to federal and state DOT regulations to ensure compliance. Develop and communicate impact summaries of future regulatory changes to leadership.

He/She is responsible for all aspects of safety within the organization. Monitor, manage and communicate Compliance, Safety & Accountability (CSA) compliance, ensuring that the organization remains within acceptable levels in all Basics. Manage the DOT drug and alcohol program.

Required:

  • 10 years’ experience in a safety management role, preferably in a federal motor carrier regulated environment, Required Licenses or Certifications
  • Advanced knowledge of FMCSA regulations
  • Advanced knowledge of DOT Hours of Services
  • Advanced knowledge of OSHA regulations
