Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
Under limited supervision, provides direct leadership and coordination for the staff and operations of Materials Management; Central Sterile Supply; and Sterile Processing.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Provides executive leadership on proactive supply chain management strategies and addressing daily supply chain operations including customer relationship management, process and project management.

Serves as the primary interface on all supply chain related issues including, sourcing and contracting, informatics, analytics, support of key departments/divisions, pharmaceutical formulary, information technology and telecommunications contracting and procure to pay.

Advances strategies and implements supply chain programs including but not limited to standardization/value analysis process, servicing key stakeholders and providing customer service, and business reviews associated with distribution agreements and supplier partnerships, which provide medical/surgical supplies, non medical/surgical supplies, capital/non-capital equipment.

Directs the daily operations of Materials Management, Central Sterile Supply and Sterile Processing including planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating programs and quality of services provided. Oversees the development of the departmental budget.

Directs the Cerner Supply Chain application and all HIT aspects of supply chain within the Alaska Native Medical Center.

Demonstrates knowledge of supply chain management accounting processes, cost/benefit analysis, Quality Control, inventory-control systems, GPO, strategic planning, healthcare supply vendors and manufacturers.

Represents materials management department in divisional and organization-wide planning and quality improvement committees and initiatives. Develops, implements and monitors quality improvement and assurance programs. Supports and fosters a positive work environment that demonstrates continuous quality improvement in customer service. Establishes and assures compliance with guidelines and policies of materials management.

Provides leadership, direction, and guidance to assigned staff.  Develops goals and priorities in conjunction with employees, and assigns tasks and projects.  Develops staff skills and training plans.  Counsels, trains, and coaches subordinate staff.  Implements corrective actions and conducts performance evaluations.  Maintains the confidentiality of patient records and procedures.

Develops, manages and monitors project budgets and contracts.  Completes internal and external written and oral reports professionally and in a timely manner.  Coordinates with ANTHC finance department to insure timely and accurate financial reporting.

Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Skills

Knowledge of hospital purchasing, materials and property management techniques.
Knowledge of Cerner Supply Chain application.
Knowledge in Joint Commission accreditation standards.
Knowledge of transporting items of varying compounds, textures or quantities.
Knowledge of safety precautions when operating motorized vehicles, equipment and hand tools.
Knowledge of safety procedures for proper storage, handling and shipment of hazardous materials.
Knowledge of the methods and procedures for unloading, loading and packaging materials and equipment.
Knowledge of the regulatory standards of materials management.
Knowledge of budgeting, planning, procedure development and implementation and reporting techniques.
Knowledge of applicable computer system software programs.
Skill in effectively managing and leading staff, and delegating tasks and authority.
Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
Skill in using analytical and research skills to define and solve problems.
Skill in assessing and implementing process improvements.
Skill in purchasing, budgeting and inventory management techniques.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with others.

Required Experience

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in business administration, economics, or a related field.  Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-Supervisory - Seven (7) years supply chain management experience in progressively responsible acute care hospital.  An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

AND

Supervisory – Three (3) years of supervision in a acute care hospital supply chain management.  An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
Certified Materials Resource Professional (CMRP) preferred.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  ANMC is not a latex free environment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be expected.  Position works primarily in office and indoor meeting environments.
