Job Description

Come create the technology that helps the world act together

Nokia is committed to innovation and technology leadership across mobile, fixed, and cloud networks. Your career here will have a positive impact on people’s lives and will help us build the capabilities needed for a more productive, sustainable, and inclusive world.

We challenge ourselves to create an inclusive way of working where we are open to new ideas, empowered to take risks, and fearless to bring our authentic selves to work.

The team you'll be part of

Strategy and Technology (S&T) lays the path for Nokia’s future technology innovation and identifies the most promising areas for Nokia to create new value. One such avenue for S&T is the Incubator, which takes on innovative new ideas and helps to commercialize them as new businesses. Nokia AIMS is an incubation venture operating in a start-up-style environment, mixing R&D and business skills, and has launched an autonomous drone solution for the logistics industry that helps customers get a clear picture of their inventory. Our development team is primarily in Murray Hill, New Jersey, and is embedded in a wider international team.

What you will learn and contribute to

The team is comprised of big-brained engineers who know a lot about drones, autonomy and computer vision, but we need someone with experience in software development best practices to take the team to the next level.

You will play a critical role in shaping the AIMS software development team, leading them to be first class coders, implementing SW development best practices and undertaking complex hands-on coding and development yourself.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead software engineering by implementing SW development best practices and processes
  • Guide, inspire and mentor a team of brilliant autonomy and computer vision engineers
  • Work closely alongside architect, product management and test team to build amazing products customers will love
  • Hands-on coding and development to solve complex technical problems related to drone/robotics autonomy, computer vision and object recognition, machine learning, real-time applications and UI
  • Conduct code reviews and bug hunting expeditions
  • Select tools and platforms to meet team’s software development requirements
  • Ensure all software meets product requirements, is of high quality, well-documented and delivered on-time
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning
  • Own quarterly software development objectives and key results

Your skills and experience

You have:

  • Minimum five years’ experience leading software development in an agile environment
  • Hands-on experience with code management, release planning and CI/CD, and overall software development life cycle
  • Versatile coder with expertise in Python and C++
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, software containerization and code deployment
  • Good understanding of RESTFul APIs and database management
  • Developed software for one or more of real-time, embedded systems, mission critical or robotics applications and demonstrated record of having shipped code in production
  • Understanding and experience with software testing methodologies
  • High EQ, communications and influencing skills
  • Worked for a software startup, large software development company or IT consultancy

It would be nice if you also had:

  • People management experience
  • Expertise in Javascript
  • Sense of humor

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in computer science or equivalent

While this is an individual contributor role, it is expected to lead to head of engineering responsibilities as team grows. We work in the office in New Providence, NJ (commuting distance to NYC) a minimum three days per week. You must have valid work authorization for the US as we are not able to sponsor candidates.
