GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Provides vision, management, and direction for a residential department accommodating approximately 1000 students living on campus. Develops vibrant co-curricular programs with initiatives that complement the academic mission of the University while engaging and facilitating students' growth. Supervises professional staff and oversees the supervision of paraprofessional staff. Responsible for the housing revenue stream for the University. Produces accurate occupancy and revenue reports and projects future revenue. Coordinates assessment efforts and establishes departmental learning outcomes and implementation strategies. Administers the department's student conduct system. Responsible for the crisis management plan for the department in concert with other critical services on campus. Partners closely with the assistant dean of students and campus life to respond appropriately to student conduct issues. Coordinates, as necessary, with DPS and facilities to ensure student safety and responsiveness to concerns about residential spaces.
- Oversees all aspects of the University's housing and Residence Life operations and programs, to include short and long-range planning to meet departmental and University goals, organizing personnel and information for effective and efficient operation, monitoring all aspects of the daily operations, assessing the effectiveness of programs, policies, and procedures, and providing departmental leadership.
- Responsible for oversight of a $6 million revenue stream for the University.
- Establishes accurate occupancy and revenue reports, budget analysis, and projects future revenue.
- Evaluates and assesses housing occupancy and pricing while maintaining local market awareness.
- Oversees the management of all room assignment related tasks including assignments for new and returning students, mid-year room change requests, and effective communication to internal and external stakeholders regarding room assignments on campus. Responsible for the implementation of Adirondak, a new housing software program.
- Recruits, selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates professional staff and oversees the supervision of paraprofessional staff.
- Determines response for staff who are working with students struggling with issues related to retention, mental health, and transition challenges. Makes counseling referrals when such referrals are deemed necessary and works closely with the Center for Wellness and Counseling.
- Directs crisis response and risk management strategies for campus housing. Consults with the Department of Facilities and Public Safety to address student and facility issues.
- Addresses student and parent issues consistent with the values of the University.
- Oversees, evaluates and assesses the residential facilities with the Facilities department. Communicates regularly with the Director of Facilities and Custodial Supervisor to monitor residence hall maintenance, housing facilities issues and improvements, and housekeeping needs.
- Meets regularly with Dining Services to ensure resident student satisfaction.
- Manages assessment efforts and establishes departmental learning outcomes and implementation strategies and assesses student satisfaction with the residential experience.
- Directs and manages occupancy initiatives and communication flow with incoming students in collaboration with the Admissions team. Knowledgeable of SLATE, the Admissions software program.
- Collaborates with Marketing Communication to develop marketing materials for incoming and current resident students.
- Oversees, edits, and publishes the Residence Life Guidebook.
- Maintains an awareness of best practices, current trends and issues in student affairs and student housing and integrates that knowledge into departmental programs, activities, and services.
- Responsible for compliance with relevant University policies and procedures, professional standards, and maintains data necessary for state and federally mandated requirements.
- Master's degree in Student Affairs related field
- Minimum seven (7) years experience in Residence Life
- Supervision of professional staff
- Experience working with diverse university-level student body
- Direct experience with student conduct hearings
- Knowledge of and experience working with Title IX
- Departmental budgetary experience
- Experience collaborating with a wide variety of departments across campus
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
