Description


Purpose of Position


The primary role of this position is project management of major new platform development and breakthrough projects. This position reports to the VP of Product Development. The Director of Project Management leads a cross functional team which includes direct reports from within engineering, as well as indirect reports from the Business Unit and Operations. The Director of Project Management is accountable for the entire project from definition through design, manufacturing and commercialization. He/she will lead the development team in meeting the prescribed design requirements, schedule, and production readiness, and also serve as the primary project communication link between the Project Team and Senior Management.


Essential Functions

  • Responsible for creating the vision for a project and setting its goals and objectives
  • Driving execution to schedule, performance, quality, and cost
  • Selling the team on what the project is, why it is important, and why their tasks need to be accomplished
  • Inspiring the team to achieve greatness
  • Working with senior team to sponsor to remove constraints
  • Challenging processes, and finding a better way to do things. Focusing on results.
  • Trading off opportunity vs. risk
  • Leads a cross functional team that includes dedicated engineers and associates assigned to the project from other functions
  • Able to work independently and mentor others
  • Organizes and actively participates in design reviews and project phase change reviews
  • Adheres to quality system requirements in the development of new products
  • Generates project status reports as necessary and mentors others in the development and communication approach for these reports
  • Develops and fosters contacts with customers, technical experts, dealers, sales people, and regulatory agencies
  • Contract negotiation discussions for assigned projects
  • Provides input to annual objectives and performance appraisals of indirect reports from Engineering, BU, Operations, and other core functions

Other Non-Essential Functions

  • Travels as necessary to aid in project facilitation
  • Knowledge of Hach internal systems is preferred

Knowledge and leadership of how and when to apply DBS tools like 3P and standard work to a project is preferredQualifications


  • BS in Engineering or the physical sciences
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Ten or more years in a product development, engineering, or manufacturing environment preferred, with at least five years of direct experience with product development
  • Broad understanding of products and processes, including design, manufacturing, and market use of products
  • Possess five years minimum experience in project management of product development projects from concept through commercialization
  • Working knowledge of new product development methodologies
  • Knowledge and use of word processors, spreadsheets, databases, project scheduling tools, etc.
