The Director of Product Management serves to ensure business and learner outcomes by (1) defining products in collaboration with business, product, engineering, customer experience, learning science, and UX team members; and (2) leading the team through the product development lifecycle.
The qualified candidate will ideally be located in Austin, New York, or Boston.
Idea Management. The Director of Product Management will:
• Groom the idea backlog and initiate market research and data analysis on prioritized ideas in collaboration with editorial program managers, learning science/UX designers, and other cross-functional teams.
• Coordinate the cross-functional team in identifying and refining market segments and baseline personas to use in ideation process.
• Move high potential validated ideas into the discovery backlog.
Product Model Discovery and Definition. The Director of Product Management will groom the discovery backlog and initiate a discovery plan for the team. Working closely with editorial program managers, product owners, UX, learning science, engineering, and architecture, the Director of Product Management will identify the key customer problems to solve and validate proposed solutions and impact on learning.
ROI Analysis. Once the validation of a solution and the impact on learning has been achieved, the Director of Product Management will:
• Lead the cross-functional team in the writing of a technology business case.
• Work with product owners, learning science/UX, engineering, content, and other cross-functional teams to derive a cost estimate.
• Collaborate with business leaders to establish evidence of product/market fit that will lead to an attractive return on investment.
Development. The Director of Product Management will partner closely with product owners to:
• Continue discovery and validation throughout development, ensuring development work achieves product-market fit.
• Develop platform capability roadmaps that support new product models and new features to existing product models.
• Facilitate a shared understanding of business needs across the development team.
Customer Delivery. The Director of Product Management will support the creation of onboarding, training, and support materials for new product models and new features in existing product models. As product usage ramps up, the Director of Product Management will work closely with customer experience and business stakeholders to examine product/market fit through data analysis, defect and KPI tracking, and market research.
Leadership. The Director of Product Management will:
• Manage and mentor product managers working on product models within a specific discipline/course cluster.
• Work collaboratively with product managers working on product models in adjacent discipline/course clusters.
• Act as the primary point of contact for product models and provide detailed, current information and regular status updates to stakeholders of the end-to-end product experience.
• Guide stakeholders in the analysis of multiple platform capability sprint reviews.
• Collaborate with business and technology leadership to identify, develop, and manage contractual, technical, and consulting relationships with strategic partners and providers.
• Collaborate with editorial program managers and media production to align digital product releases with discipline business plans and textbook campaigns.

• Minimum 3 years’ experience designing and building new products and enhancing existing products
• 2 years’ product management or business analyst experience
• Demonstrated ability to exert influence and deliver on capabilities without having direct control over all participating resources
• Programming or prototyping experience a plus, agile experience preferred
• Bachelor’s degree
