The Opportunity


The Director of Procurement leads KIPP Texas's efforts to provide seamless procurement services to support schools and departments. They are responsible for developing and implementing the statewide strategy and vision of an integrated procurement system and platform. They will also manage the Procurement Department and support with the execution of reviewing contracts, purchasing of capital items, and managing statewide insurance programs and renewals. Additionally, they are responsible for establishing operating policies and procedures for departments that attain the highest code of conduct and ethical standards in accordance with KIPP Texas Board policies and State and Federal laws.


Key Responsibilities


The Director of Procurement will:


  • Provide leadership, coordination, analytical guidance, and business judgment to strategic procurement, contracting and risk managementProviding leadership for KIPP Texas' statewide and strategic procurement initiatives
  • Oversee procurement projects to ensure cost and schedule are maintained or improved
  • Conduct analysis and make improvement recommendations
  • Help KIPP define operational initiatives that contribute to the organization's efficiencyDefine, refine, test, and implement procurement initiatives
  • Identify and propose ideas to mitigate potential problems and surprises
  • Coordinate and communicate with schools, campuses, and departments impacted by initiatives
  • Manage statewide procurement, contracting, insurance and risk management efforts Oversee the creation of and maintain standard contracts and templates for KIPP Texas
  • Oversee suppliers and service providers to ensure compliance with their contracts
  • Manage the bid solicitation and RFP processes
  • Ensure systems are in place so documentation is maintained and compliant
  • Complete purchases as required
  • Implement KIPP's risk programs Help develop insurance policy specification and manage renewal processes
  • Oversee claims processing
  • Communicate with stakeholders

Lead high priority initiatives as required including the implementation and rollout of KIPP's electronic procure-to-pay system.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Communicate effectively in writing, presentation, and discussion with a diverse set of stakeholders including KIPP executives and Board members
  • Be a team player and be capable of building consensus to support the execution of new initiatives and change management
  • Garner support and buy-in with multiple and diverse stakeholders to execute creative ideas to improve KIPPs procurement processes across the organization
  • Embrace the KIPP mission and culture
  • Build a customer-focused team that is effective, efficient, and ethical
  • Manage projects independently and successfully by maintaining cost and schedule
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, plus a minimum of 10 years of professional work experience, including business and leadership management experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or similar
  • Experience working in a school district, non-profit organization, or government agency, a plus
  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) preferred
  • Certified School Risk Manager (CSRM) preferred
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • Master's in Business Administration (MBA) preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy required
  • Excellent organizational skills required
  • Strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to work
  • Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence and initiative
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven success in working in an environment characterized by changing priorities
  • Proficiency in Google applications (Docs, Sheets, and Forms)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
  • Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required for complex analysis
