The Director of Portfolio Strategy will be responsible for managing a talented team that provides timely and relevant investment-related content to our Financial Planners and our Plan Sponsors.

The Director of Portfolio Strategy (DPS) position can sit in one of our 5 corporate locations. These include Boston, Sunnyvale, Overland Park, Phoenix or Richmond.


The Portfolio Strategy group is a part of the Portfolio Management department. The PM department is responsible for ensuring that over $200 billion of our clients' money is expertly and prudently managed. The Portfolio Strategy group is responsible for the fiduciary certification of new product code, the design and implementation of new investment products, and the operation of investment processes contribute to this.

The Portfolio Strategy group is responsible for communicating our work. This includes:

  1. Ensuring that our client-facing financial planners are given relevant and timely information about economic and investment topics, and how our investments are performing and why
  2. Working with our Relationship Management colleagues to provide investment support to our plan sponsor clients, which include some of the largest companies in the country, by presenting to treasury and HR departments, and to investment committees, on subjects such as investment performance and asset allocation.


The DPS should to be able to assemble and synthesize information on a wide range of topics from multiple and varied sources and be able to clearly present this to audiences with different levels of investment understanding. As part of a matrixed organization at Edelman Financial Services, the DPS will need to work cross-functionally with partners both within Portfolio Management as well as Financial Planner Management and Relationship Management.

A successful candidate will need to have:

  • Deep understanding of investment management theory and practice
  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience in the Financial Services industry
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Ability to influence and inform audiences with different needs and level of understanding
  • The ability to collaborate with different departments, and to manage conflicting claims on time and resources
  • Proven management capabilities to inspire and guide a highly skilled team.
  • MBA or related Graduate degree in Economics or finance related discipline
