The Director of Perioperative Services oversees the comprehensive coordination and management of the Surgical Services Department, encompassing the Inpatient Operating Room, Outpatient Surgical Services, Endoscopy, Pre-Admission Testing, and Central Sterile areas. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with the Vice President of Patient Care Services and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to ensure seamless operations to uphold the highest standards of patient care. Moreover, you'll cultivate and nurture productive business relationships to enhance the visibility and effectiveness of our division's services while developing and maintaining effective business relationships across the organization. The Director of Perioperative Services uses a collaborative approach to implementing the Perioperative Services strategic direction, developing new services, and service line growth.

Responsibilities:

  • The Director of Perioperative Services develops and sustains an environment fostering excellence and innovation in clinical nursing practice and high quality patient care, aligning with organizational mission and strategic initiatives in the Perioperative Services department.
  • Collaborates with providers including surgeons and advanced practice providers, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure seamless coordination of surgical services and optimal patient outcomes. Serves as a liaison between perioperative services department and the Surgical services committee of the medical staff.
  • This role oversees various staff management functions, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling, recruitment and retention.
  • Develops, facilitates, reviews, and approves the budget for Perioperative Services, optimizing hospital resources, managing vendor contracts, Reviews appropriate financial reports and makes appropriate modifications in Perioperative Services to reduce costs associated with supplies, staffing, service agreements and/or identifies sound alternatives for purchasing equipment and supplies and ensuring cost-effective, quality care.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and support to managers, colleagues, and staff, serving as a role model in professional behavior and leadership.
  • Delegates authority and accountability to nursing staff for clinical nursing practice and patient care decisions consistent with professional standards and organizational policies.
  • Identifies patient and family needs, recommending or developing new programs and services and ensuring appropriate equipment and educational resources.
  • Collaborates with hospital administration and physicians to identify future opportunities and define the direction of Perioperative Services, implementing plans to achieve goals.
  • Maintains an ongoing departmental Quality Improvement Plan, developing and implementing unit-specific standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Develops and implements unit specific standards, policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of care and services; continuously assesses and improves assigned departments' the performance of perioperative services while enhancing service to promote patient safety, throughput and efficiency of the operating room processes.
  • Reviews financial reports to identify cost-saving opportunities and participates in committees and meetings, including Surgical Services Sub Committee.
  • Assures interdisciplinary performance improvement programs are active and ongoing, maintaining a focus on providing excellent clinical services.
  • Participates in strategic planning related to patient care and maintains professional growth and development through education, research, and professional affiliations.
  • Participates in and/or chairs committees, work groups, and meetings at as appropriate including the Surgical Services Committee of the Medical Staff

Requirements:

Five years of experience in a surgical environment with 3 years of progressive management experience with financial/budgetary responsibilities.

This is a full time Monday-Friday position
