Job Description:

  • Required Director of Patient Services

Job Summary:

  • The Director of Patient Services (DPS) is a member of the administrative team of facility and as such, participates in decision-making, policy determination, planning and operations of the hospital
  • She/he is responsible for operationalizing the philosophy of nursing
  • The position also has the authority and responsibility for establishing standards of nursing practice, nursing policies and procedures, and nursing standards of patient care

More specific responsibilities are outlined below:

  • Develops hospital-wide patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how patient’s nursing care needs or patient populations receiving nursing care are assessed, evaluated and met
  • Develops and implements the hospital’s plans for providing nursing care to those patients requiring nursing care
  • Participates with governing body, management, medical staff, and clinical leaders in hospital’s decision-making structures and processes including strategic planning process
  • Implements an effective, ongoing program to measure, assess and improve the quality of nursing care delivered to patients
  • Participates in effective management of financial, human, material and informational resources
  • Ensures that the organization has an overall plan for the development and implementation of educational programs and research that support nursing practice and patient care
  • Participates with leaders from the governing body, management, medical staff, and clinical areas in planning, promoting and conducting hospitalwide performance improvement activities.
  • Plans, directs and controls all administrative activities related to assigned service areas
  • Works with department managers to plan, develop and operate a budget
  • Develops, interprets and directs the implementation of hospital policies and procedures
  • Interrelates with multiple persons to communicate, resolve problems and facilitate patient care
  • Oversees other clinical areas as designated by Administration

Qualifications:

  • Current/Active California RN license
  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing or a related field with at least two years of experience in nursing administration preferred
  • At least four years of experience in nursing administration or supervision, with evidence of continuing education directly related to the job specifications
  • Knowledge of current theoretical approaches to delivering nursing care and strategies for examining and applying relevant concepts and current leadership, management, and performance improvement concepts
  • Ability to participate in developing and implementing strategies to address opportunities for improving nursing care
  • State license status must be currently active
