WHAT YOU WILL DO:      

Lead the implementation of a robust and complex patient safety program at multiple sites, including large complex teaching hospitals, community hospitals, and medical group locations.

Provide in-depth analysis and evaluation of highly confidential data to identify clinical risk reduction opportunities.

Work closely with their site's executive leadership teams, site directors, managers as well as the front line, and the multi-specialty medical staff.

Collaborate with other key divisions within the organization, including Risk Management, Quality, Supply Chain, IT and Clinical Engineering, etc.

Ensure consistency of the safety program of site-based Managers of Patient Safety at multiple smaller hospitals

Regional Director will be responsible for hospitals within their scope and provide education on relevant patient safety topics.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates implementation of site's patient safety program including leadership and front line tools that promote reliability.
  • This includes but are not limited to daily huddle, safety recognition, "just culture", safety coach programs, and physician champion programs.
  • Leads the High Reliability Unit program at their home site and assists other sites within their region.
  • This includes facilitating selection and training of safety coaches, leads coach training, ensuring training of all associates within the unit, launch of projects to solve local safety issues, and ensures a strong sustainment program is in place.
  • Coordinates safety efforts though inter-site engagement to ensure alignment of Advocate's culture of high reliability and progress related to implementation of the patient safety strategic plan.
  • Aligns efforts with leaders from all departments, clinical and non-clinical, including the medical staff at each site within their region, and with regional and PSA leaders.
  • Communicates and presents regularly to region, PSA and site executive teams around the occurrence of serious safety events, and status of the site safety program.
  • Ensures the timely investigation of all serious safety events by conducting root cause analysis and use of other investigative tools.
  • Identifies and oversees implementation of corrective actions to reduce risk in the organization, specifically identifying those that have system implications for risk reduction. 


Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required:

Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) designation issued by the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety (CBPPS).

Education Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, or Bachelor's Degree in Allied Health, or Bachelor's Degree in Health Care Administration or related field.

Experience Required:

Typically requires 7 years of experience in the delivery of clinical care in nursing or allied health, patient safety that includes 3 years in a leadership role.
