Hawthorn Surgery Center is a busy, multi-specialty, 5 OR, outpatient surgery center, primarily performing orthopedics, ENT, urology, podiatry and pain management procedures. Our center’s new building opened 4 years ago in Vernon Hills, IL and we are growing at an excitingly rapid pace. 

Accountabilities / Responsibilities

We are currently searching for a Director of Nursing to lead and mentor our dynamic team of nurses.  We are looking for a positive, energetic and experienced Director of Nursing with a proven track record of delivering excellent service to physicians and teammates along with providing high quality care to patients. Accountabilities / Responsibilities

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for all aspects of nursing care delivery in the facility. Assumes responsibility for PreOp/PACU/OR. The DON is also responsible for the Quality Improvement/Risk Management Program and ongoing education of teammates.  As a Registered Nurse, the DON is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. In the absence of the Administrator, the DON will assume some of his/her responsibilities.

  • Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency throughout the clinical areas of the facility.
  • Sets priorities and maintains an efficient and safe staffingschedule in a fast-paced dynamic environment
  • Supervises the smooth functioning of the center
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, families, teammates and physicians
  • Assesses, plans, evaluates and ensures the implementation of high quality patient care
  • Interviews, selects and retains qualified staff to meet facility needs
  • Responsible for direction, teaching, engagement and growth of teammates
  • Fosters a positive and professional facility environment by interacting with all persons in a considerate, helpful and courteous manner and by participating as a team member
  • Upholds and practices the principles and policies of the SCA Compliance program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degreerequired/Master’s degreepreferred.
  • Experience in ambulatory surgery nursing, at least two to five years of nursing and management experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center is desired.
  • Minimum of two years OR experience.
  • Current IL nursing license.
  • Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS)-  Advanced Life Support (ACLS) within in 1 year of hire date.  Accreditation experiencepreferred.
