The Director of Nursing (DON) is a registered nurse at the executive level with the knowledge and ability to plan, organize, supervise and direct the general nursing care and treatment services of the hospital. The DON plans, develops and implements nursing programs, policies and procedures; provides consultative, directive, and advisory services for the purpose of maintaining nursing standards of care for the facility. The DON functions as a liaison between the Nursing Department, other disciplines, and the community; ensures that the resources necessary for the provision of nursing services (i.e., personnel, equipment, budget, etc.) are available and that all nursing standards and regulations are met to comply with survey and licensure requirements. The DON ensures the nursing department functions in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator and the Medical Director, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Budget – Responsible for the ongoing monitoring of the capitol and operational budget for Nursing. Quality – Actively participates in the facilities Quality Improvement Activities. Directs Nursing department programs to facilitate care delivery. Displays leadership skills by developing departmental goals and communicating standards of performance. Maintains patients’ rights and organizational ethics. Ensures continuum of care. Manages the environment of care. Manages information through clear and consistent communication. QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
Five years of Clinical Experience with Two years’ experience.
Graduate of Accredited School of Professional Nursing as a RN BSN preferred. Licenses / Certifications:Current NYS RN License; BLS required.
