Responsible for coordinating all medical staff activities and acts as a liaison to medical staff, nursing and administration. Provides administrative support for medical staff functions and to the medical staff leadership including elected and appointed medical staff organization representatives in order to enable them to fulfill their duties and obligations as defined by regulatory and licensing agencies and Medical Staff Bylaws and accompanying documents. Responsible for providing exceptional customer service and setting the goals and objectives for the Medical Staff Office (MSO).

Serves as the subject matter expert for all Medical staff Office activities in the context of regulatory, accreditation, legal, and other requirements. Explore other models for delivery of services, analyzes potential for success and makes recommendations for implementation of these methods.
Develop revenue generation mechanisms in conjunction with other program managers in order to expand programs. Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures that reflect the quality and safe delivery of health care services. Develop, implement and monitor a quality improvement and assurance program related to the Credentialing function.
Manages and schedules assigned staff. Develops goals and priorities; assigns tasks and projects. Develops staff skills and training plans. Counsels, trains and coaches assigned staff. Implements corrective actions and conducts performance evaluations.
Develops, implements and monitors quality improvement and assurance programs. Assists in budget formulation. Monitors MSO staffing, resource and expenditure to ensure successful program implementation in accordance with approved budget.
Timely completion of management reports. Responsible for tracking departmental workload measurements.
Coordinate and work with other departments to ensure the optimal flow of customers through the system.
Supervises credentialing and privileging activities: Follows Federal and Alaska State laws and JCAHO standards to create and implement policies and procedures for credentialing and privileging which are in compliance with the Medical Staff Bylaws policies and procedures and which have been approved by the Credentials Committee, the Medical Staff Executive Committee and the Joint Operating Board.
Provides performance data for evaluation of providers. Assures that credentialing procedures are completed in a timely manner according to guidelines outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws and credentialing policies and procedures. Assures that appropriate documentation of credentialing and privileging activities is maintained for JCAHO and other accreditation and Alaska State licensing surveys, including (but not limited to) minutes and credentials files.
Oversees management of medical staff organization meetings: Assures coverage of medical staff meetings and provides guidance, resources and support to elected and appointed officers of the Medical Staff. Assures that appropriate agendas are developed after consultation with committee and department chairs.
Maintains documentation of all minutes for JCAHO and other accreditation and licensing surveys. Assures that follow-up action is taken as indicated and appropriate. Oversees the preparation of accurate documentation of medical staff meetings and peer review monitoring activities following legal guidelines, JCAHO, and other Federal and State requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Tribal law, regulations, rules, policies and processes. Including substantial knowledge of relevant specialized fields such as Federal Indian law and self-determination/self-governance, health law, and employment law.
Knowledge of JCAHO compliance standards and application experience related to medical staff credentialing and privileging requirements.
Knowledge of sound quality assurance and management practices.
Knowledge of fiscal management; budgeting.
Knowledge of and demonstrated application of the 1974 Privacy Act – specifically as related to confidentiality of information.
Knowledge of adult communication and learning principles.

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION
A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or other related field. Progressively responsible professional work-related experience, education, or training may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for college education.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-supervisory – Four (4) years of relevant work experience. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
Supervisory - Two (2) years involving employee supervision. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience.
MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION
CPSC, CMSC, CPHQ or CPMSM Certification required.
May be required to travel within Alaska in small fixed wing aircraft; travels outside Alaska. The ability to handle occasional subjection to verbal abuse and threats from angry, hostile or disgruntled patients and/or family members is needed.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is a requirement. On occasion may be exposed to infectious diseases. ANMC is not a latex free environment. Therefore, some latex exposure can be expected.
