The Director of Integration Services has an expansive role from strategy to development to operations.  This person will lead the development of the strategic roadmap for all integration applications and technology and work with our business partners on go to market Integration as a Service engagements.   Today, Healthtrust has one of the world’s largest networks of integrated healthcare providers, vendors, and partners serving 1600 hospitals and 26000 alternate sites with 30B in purchasing power. The primary purpose of this position is to manage all development teams within Integration Services at Healthtrust.  Additionally, this position will provide technical leadership and expertise for developing innovative new products within Integration Services at Healthtrust. This position requires a candidate who lead a team in the analysis of business requirements, performance of design tasks, solution construction, testing, and implementation of solutions with little to no supervision in a Lean/Agile Development environment. The Director must consider Functional and Non-functional requirements of project and non-project integration efforts to assemble the core design and development resources to produce design documentation that will enable the successful delivery of each effort.  The Director will also serve as the primary liaison to Product Development, Infrastructure, and Operations Vice Presidents and Business Solution Leaders. The candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter and committed to delivering high quality solutions within agreed upon timelines.  Ultimately, the candidate’s success will be evaluated by the performance advances the entire Integration Services team is able to achieve on a consistent basis.  The following are highlighted competencies and core expectations for the job/role:

  • Lead through the complete software development lifecycle in the delivery of solutions using IBM Integration Bus (IIB), IBM WebSphere Message Queue (WMQ), IBM WebSphere Message Queue File Transfer Edition (WMQ-FTE), and IBM WebSphere DataPower Gateway and all future integration technologies.
  • Lead through the complete software development lifecycle for selected projects that are designed to stabilize, enhance, and/or expand capabilities related to the Integration Services team.  These solutions will be both internally-facing and externally-facing tools and solutions.

  • Manage all contracting and sourcing relationships.

  • Develop and mentor team members and other leaders and developers outside of the team on integration services strategies and architectures

  • Perform day-to-day management of the team along with key department functions such as enterprise project estimations, escalation management, metrics establishment and analysis, as well as quality control functions.

  • Ensure the full and proper application of technology to all department functions

  • Manage all staff and matrixed non-staff members involved in the software development process – Scrum Masters, Developers, Business Analysts, Quality Assurance and Support as needed

  • People management – Staff meetings, Resource Allocation Management, Performance Reviews, Time Management, PTO, Employee Development Planning and Mentoring

  • Evangelize and implement Agile development principles for the entire Integration Services department as well as other stakeholders

  • Assist and advise the Scrum Master of the primary development team

    Assist and advise other teams within and outside the department as needed

  • Educate staff and other leaders as appropriate to advance the knowledge of Agile throughout the organization
  • In cooperation with Healthtrust and HCA Architects, evaluate all proposed new technology for the departmental use and organizational fit

  • Collaborate with Corporate leadership, Client Executives, Clients and PMs to schedule, staff and deliver Integration solutions and enhancements

  • Identify potential revenue-generating solutions and perform patent evaluations and feasibility analysis where applicable

  • Meet and build relationships with senior executives (CEO, CFO, CIO, etc.) by presenting and discussing industry trends, best in class strategies, and gaining buy in on solutions and services. 

  • Lead client discussions and meetings to present analysis and facilitate client decision making.

  • Collaborate with Account Executives, Sales, Product Management and Marketing to identify and address customer needs

  • Create solutions to client problems and monitor engagement progress.

  • Create, review and approve support documentation, work plans, and other deliverables.

  • Coordinate client assignments: monitor client satisfaction, assure engagement efficiency and quality, and manage continuous improvement process.

  • Assist the AVP of Engineering and other designees in developing a catalog of service offerings along with associated costs

The candidate will be involved in:

  • Establishing, maintaining, and improving Healthtrust’s Integration Services standards and procedures.

  • Ensuring staff engineers are performing development using Healthtrust standards and procedures, maintaining code and version control.

  • Leading and managing development projects thru the entire lifecycle and maintaining optimal operations viability of deployed solutions.

  • Support staff who will be using various tools: Datapower, IIB, MQ, VS2008-VS2012, C#, Java, MS SQL 2005- MS SQL 2014,UML Modeling, XML, Javascript/JQuery/Ajax/JSON, Domain Driven Design

  • Responsible for all resource management activities, allocates team members to technology projects.

  • Work with vendors to augment staffing as needed

  • Develops detailed departmental budgets including capital expenditures, operating expenses, technical training and travel budgets, salary and benefits.  Monitors and manages the budget on a monthly basis.  Ensure staff are completing Unit Testing and participating in Peer/Code Reviews of other developers work

  • Ensure staff are providing advanced troubleshooting user support working with end users at all levels of the organization

  • Ensure baseline key performance indicators are established as well as relevant operating metrics can be gathered in order to evaluate before/after results related to new technology adoption

  • Identify and help implement process additions/changes/deletions that augment the technology adoption

  • Conduct training sessions and/or ensure relevant training is performed as necessary to help ensure high levels of technology adoption

  • Identify and acquire technologies along with all supporting managerial tasks (e.g.- contract management, requisitioning, invoice payments)

  • Responsible for process improvement initiatives 













Bachelor's Degree required




7+ years' experience in addition to the following:

  • Experience and a proven track record in supervising and mentoring high performance technical teams 

  • Ability to succinctly communicate verbally and in a variety of media

  • Familiarity with Lean/Agile techniques in development environment (certifications are preferred, but a proven history is highly desired)

  • Formal experience as a Technical Product Manager and/or served as a Product Manager for a software solution

  • Experience in Healthcare Integration Services and/or integration as a service (Iaas) offerings

  • Relevant experience/knowledge working with Hospitals and their integration needs

  • Management of leaders and staff, Lead and implemented projects with >=10 members, >=1,000 hour projects

  • Calm under pressure
