The Director, IT Applications Development is a strategic business systems visionary and integrator, responsible for development and ongoing support of the company’s software applications, primarily SAP and SalesForce. 

Through team leadership and technical expertise, responsibilities include working closely with business partners to identify, prioritize, and define solutions. S/he will lead internal IT software development initiatives as well as the selection/integration of third party technology and applications. This includes the creation, maintenance and delivery of releaseschedules for all new development and systems upgrades. Additionally, he/she will coordinate the acceptance, approval and prioritization of development project requests, as well as existing system change requirements. 

The Director of IT Applications will work closely with the CIO and decision makers across the business to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. S/he will utilize their extensive SAP and SalesForce knowledge, expertise and experience in implementing SAP and SalesForce functionality in this hands-on leadership role, where they will be the resident expert in the systems.

Strategy & Planning

·        Formulate and deploy short and long-term strategic direction and roadmap for all software applications with the IT management team, and by collaborating with the business to understand current and future needs and direction

·        Maintains strong business relationships and works collaboratively with all business unit leaders, ensuring alignment between business objectives and systems priorities.

·        Manage all Application operational and strategic planning, including business requirements, project planning, organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.

Operational Management

·        Directs and drives the Application teams (internal and external) to deliver solutions that meet business requirements, are well architected, well documented and tested; scope of responsibility includes supporting various functional areas, including: sales & marketing, service, operations, manufacturing, customer relationship management, financial applications, human resource information systems, company website and others.

·        Provides coaching, mentoring, and leadership to the team. Develop and grows the existing application systems organization into a highly functioning, efficient, and effective team.

·        Identifies departmental priorities and deploys resources to best meet the company needs, taking pastoral responsibility for SAP and SalesForce team deliverables, and assisting in the overall planning and implementation of the project portfolio.

·        Determine and manage short- and long-term Application priorities, goals, results, and objectives. Work closely with the business to understand, define and prioritize business needs. In conjunction with IT Portfolio Manager, identifies need and justification for resources to continue to support business objectives. 

·        Responsible for managing 3rd party Application Managed Services provider, project schedules, technical risks, problem solving, issues management and milestone tracking

·        Provides vision and supports actions to ensure innovation and competitiveness in terms of products, services, technologies, processes, etc.

·        Analyze business changes that affect current systems solutions. Lead system analysts to design appropriate enhancements to support such changes. Responsibilities include estimating scope and cost of effort, working with business relationship managers to assign priorities, assigning resources, tracking progress to completion, managing testing and quality, planning for transition to production status.

·        Establish and maintain regular in-person and written communications with the organization’s executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.

·        Manages the Application Services budget and results based on the business plan defined.

·        Support negotiation and administration of vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements.

·        Grow and develop individuals and the team, ensuring the attraction, development and retention of top talent.

·        Ensures application development processes comply with Sarbanes-Oxley, as well as other regulatory and business requirements.

·        Have and maintain a detailed overall knowledge of SAP ECC, SalesForce and their respective specific capabilities and functions, system architecture, and required technical infrastructure for a manufacturing and distribution enterprise.


Formal Education & Certification

·        Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business management or related discipline and 10 years related work experience. Master’s degreepreferred.

 Knowledge & Experience

·        A minimum of 10 years relevant professional IT applications development experience.

·        5+ Years as at management level – experience leading a team of Architects, Analysts, Developers and Quality Assurance Analysts.

·        7+ years ERP SAPexperience, of successfully implementing small to mid-sized SAP projects on schedule and budget. SAP S4/HANA experience is a plus.

·        SalesForceexperience, of successfully implementing small to mid-sized SFDC projects on schedule and budget - strongly preferred

·        Detailed knowledge and configuration capability of multiple SAP R/3 Modules is a plus

·        An effective leader and mentor, capable of building the function to meet the business needs for IT support; with experience managing internal and external resources and projects on a global scale.

·        Must have strong SAP and SFDC management experience in a discrete manufacturing, distribution and service operation

·        SAP implementation experience in 6.0

·        Solid knowledge of ECC 6, its specific capabilities and functions, system architecture, and required technical infrastructure for a manufacturing and distribution enterprise.

·        Knowledge of: Variant configuration, SAP CRM, and best practices in the implementation and operation of SAP.

·        Detailed knowledge and configuration capability of multiple SAP R/3 Modules is a plus

·        Significant implementation experience of new functionality in SAP.

·        Capable of establishing excellent relationships with the business unit managers, utilizing business case development skills to establish priorities.

·        Effective negotiating skills.  

·        Experience in process management, governance and IT methodologies. Specific experience with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.

·        Track record in leading the successful development of in-house, out-sourced and blended solutions in a structured project management environment.

·        Proven understanding of relevant IT best practice methods
