The Director of Internal Audit and Controls position serves as an independent appraisal function for the purpose of evaluating the company's internal control structure and other accounting, financial and operational activities. This is accomplished through the continual compliance with the Sarbanes–Oxley Act of 2002, as well as management of the internal audit function. The position requires a strong financial accounting background and a willingness to be extremely 'hands-on'. This position assists corporate management and operations personnel in the design, application and assessment of internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure accuracy and completeness of financial and operations data and promote operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the company's Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 – Sections 302 and 404 compliance efforts
  • Monitors the design, operation and testing of the internal control framework as required by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 – Sections 302 and 404 for domestic and international companies, as applicable
  • Manages the development and implementation of an annual risk assessment process to facilitate efficient preparation of the annual audit plan
  • Coordinates the efforts of outsource service providers associated with compliance testing and audit projects
  • Assists corporate management and operations personnel in the design, application and assessment of internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure accuracy and completeness of financial and operations data, and promote operational efficiency and effectiveness
  • Develops and manages a formal Internal Audit function to evaluate accounting, financial, and operational activities aligning with the company's strategic business objectives
  • Develops and prepares standard periodic reporting for the Board of Directors, Audit Committee, CFO, Senior Management, Auditors and Process Owners containing observations, comments and/or recommendations based on carried out work

Qualifications

  • College degree in accounting or finance required
  • Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley required
  • 10+ years accounting experience
  • CPA or CIA required
  • MBA or Master's degree preferred
  • Multi-site specialty retail environment experience preferred
  • Big 4 Public accounting experience a plus
  • Experience with Cadency Compliance a plus
  • Strong US GAAP/IFRS experience
  • Background should include core competencies in generally accepted accounting principles, SEC reporting and SOX compliance
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Collaborative yet decisive management style with the ability to lead by example and motivate a high functioning team through encouragement and support to achieve desired results
  • Strong strategic sense and the ability to see the big picture both in the present and for the future
  • Experience managing others including career development, directing and evaluating work
  • Based in Dallas/Ft. Worth area
  • Ability to travel 15% a year, based on the business needs
