Description

The Director of Infection Prevention is responsible for facility-wide activities of evaluating and managing infection control risks to patients and personnel through extensive surveillance and an effective reporting system. The Director functions as the hospital-wide clinical expert in the prevention and control of infection and is responsible for the facility-wide planning and implementation of the facility-wide infection control program.

Some of the core responsibilities include:

  • You will develop, coordinate and manage the review and assessment functions of the infection control program;
  • Initiate, develop and deliver education programs on infection control and prevention for staff development and regulatory agency compliance;
  • Serve as liaison and interface with all regulatory agencies, and the health care community concerning infection prevention issues to assure hospital compliance with infection prevention regulations
  • Perform targeted surveillance and prepare reports and statistics on healthcare-associated infection rates
  • Develop and promote consistent application of infection prevention policies and procedures
  • Support emergency management activities and EOC through participation on environmental rounds, bioterrorism and patient influx planning, emergency response drills
  • Identify community and hospital acquired infections as defined by the National Healthcare Safety Network of the CDC.
  • Identify situations that may present an infectious hazard to patients, staff, or visitors. Take appropriate actions to eliminate hazards.
  • Identify communicable disease cases to be reported to the Nevada Division of Public Health per established policies.

Qualifications

What you need:Education

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Masters Degree in healthcare related field preferred

Experience

  • At least two years (2) experience in infection prevention
  • At least two years (2) acute care experience (may be concurrent to above)
  • At least one year (1) of experience working with epidemiology, microbiology and the principles of sepsis

Certification and Licensure

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • CIC Infection Control Practitioner Certification preferred
    • If not CIC certified, must begin process for certification by attending the initial APIC class within 90 days of hire and achieve CIC certification within 2.5 years of hire.
  • Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse within the state of Nevada, or another state with the ability to obtain licensure in Nevada
