Reporting to the Executive Director of Gift Planning, the Director of Gift Planning will help lead donor engagement and gift solicitation efforts for Temple’s Office of Gift Planning, playing a vital role on the University’s central fundraising team.  Tapping the vast potential for planned gifts among Temple alumni, the Director will be an integral team member to college, school and other unit-specific fundraisers in the cultivation and solicitation of prospects who are incorporating gift planning or complex assets as part of their overall philanthropy. The position will help to maintain a robust legacy gift society program that creates meaningful and memorable acts of stewardship for members while identifying opportunities for new gift solicitations.  The Director will also support the Executive Director in core Temple Gift Planning program operations, including gift officer training, marketing and stewardship, gift acceptance, and gift agreements. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience in gift planning at an educational institution, hospital or not-for-profit organization is required; legal or financial background such as JD, CPA, and/or CFP preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, with stronger preference for those candidates with major gift fundraising experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Highly refined interpersonal skills; strong listening and writing skills; adept at communicating complicated or abstract concepts in simple terms; desire to work with diverse constituency groups

*Background or understanding of gift, estate and financial planning, as well as of gift planning options for complex assets, life-income gifts and estates.

*Knowledge of tax laws governing charitable giving. 

*Working knowledge of the various aspects, goals, and processes of a broad-based fundraising program including mail and electronic media marketing.

*Training in donor-centered, impact-focused gift planning and major gift fundraising.

*Highly motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

*Ability to organize and prioritize, with effective time management skills.

*Ability to deal with confidential materials with discretion

*Fully functional in Microsoft Office tools and entering information and producing reports from a database.
