National law firm has an immediate opening for a Director of Finance in their Oakland County office. The successful candidate will lead an established team of seven managers and be an integral member of the Firm's executive management team.
Communicate effectively, establish trust and maintain effective relationships internally with Firm Management, attorneys, other Department Heads and staff at all levels. Utilize a high level of political and interpersonal savvy.
Responsible for the development and implementation of effective financial, accounting, and Finance-related IT strategic planning.
Responsible for developing, recommending, and implementing such internal accounting and financial controls and programs as are necessary to preserve and expand firm assets. This includes effectively managing the liquid assets, cash flow, Trust funds, accounting system, budgeting process, accounts receivable/collections, payroll system, suppliers and vendors, borrowing activities, equipment leasing, assists in managing insurance coverage, tax planning, and financial research and analysis.
Responsible for the effective maintenance and reporting of financial records, including monthly and annual financialreporting, variance reporting, Member allocations statistics, draw and capital accounts, letter agreement and incentive compensation calculations, coordinating audits of the financial statements, financial survey responses and ensuring accurate and timely governmental filings and payments.
Responsible for overseeing the effective development, installation, and implementation of the Finance-related information systems. This includes ensuring the implementation of efficient and cost effective systems designed to aid in decision-making, providing recommendations to Firm Management regarding software purchasing decisions, ensuring that users? needs are met and that they are well trained and capable of fully utilizing established financial systems, coordinating with IT to ensure that backup and recovery systems are operable and effective, and ensuring that user documentation is well developed and maintained.
Supervises assigned personnel, ensuring optimal performance by providing leadership through effective goal setting, delegation, and communication; ensuring that personnel are well informed of changes in programs, policies and procedures; hiring, training, directing, and providing assistance and support; conducting performance appraisals and providing measurable feedback to accounting personnel with suggestions for improved performance; and formulating and implementing employee corrective actions as needed.
Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of Department functions; the establishment and implementation of Department organizational structure, policies, and procedures; the development of Department operating budgets; keeping management informed of Department activities and of progress toward established goals; and coordinating functions with other departments to ensure that their information needs are being met.
Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective business relations with vendors, outside auditors, and regulators, and with those from professional trade and civic groups to stay informed of trends and changes in the accounting, finance, and IT fields. This includes serving as a liaison between the Firm and regulatory authorities, establishing and maintaining effective relationships with lenders, and ensuring that the Firm?s professional reputation is maintained.
Support the financial due diligence and analysis of identified third party firms for expansion opportunities.
We are seeking candidates who possess a Bachelor?s degree in finance, accounting, or related field or equivalent work experience. CPA, CMA, or MBA preferred. Seven to ten years of related progressive experience. Significant supervisory experiencerequired.
Thorough understanding of financial and accounting practices, procedures, and regulations.
Knowledge of financial issues and reporting. Understanding of financial information systems.
