Job Title: Director of Finance & Operations

Job Description:
Faribault Public Schools is seeking outstanding candidates for a full-time Director of Finance and Operations to begin August 2024 to help lead our work through the guidance of Our District Playbook. The successful candidate for this cabinet-level position is responsible for the financial well-being of the school; preparing and enforcing an annual operating budget of over $50 million and ensuring that all regulations and procedures are followed, and may supervise all of the facility's operations including food services, transportation and buildings and grounds; providing leadership for planning, development and evaluation of each area. The Director provides robust support to various committees serving as either the chair or contributing member (Insurance, Wellness, Finance, Facilities, Health and Safety).

Faribault Public Schools is a rural Pre-K through Adult School District located about 50 miles south of the Twin-Cities. The school district currently serves approximately 3,300 students in Faribault and our surrounding areas within our community of 23,000 citizens within the city limits. District sites include one early childhood center, three elementary schools K-5, one middle school 6-8, one high school 9-12, one area learning center 9-12 and one education center for adult learners.

Essential Functions: Plans, supervises, directs and initiates recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools concerning all finance matters. Directs, organizes and participates in district accounting, negotiations and budget preparation and control; directs payroll operations, revenue recording and funds disbursement, and central receiving/supply offset. Reviews and communicates working capital investments, and cash flow information with the Superintendent of Schools and School Board. Oversees MARSS reporting and enrollment analysis. Collaborates with all administrative departments to ensure robust inter-departmental communication, budgeting and protocols. Prepares statistical research for projects in short- and long-range planning and decision making. Prepares short and long term financial projections. Initiates and administers contracts between the District and vendors relating to, but not limited to, licenses, insurance, transportation and food services providers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The qualified candidate will have demonstrated progressive responsibility in accounting, finance and business operations as well as management experience. Prior experience managing and administering investments and endowments is a plus. The position requires strong self-direction, analytical, financial and accounting skills. This individual must have excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills with the ability to relate to all levels of people internally and externally. Experience preparing financial statements and reports for a school. Strong experience in setting up and maintaining financial and operational policies, procedures, controls and standards. Comprehension of risk management and current legal and regulatory environment within the context of non-profits and independent schools.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with a CPA and at least one year of current school district finance experience; or Master's Degree in Accounting or Business with at least one year of school district finance experience preferred; or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business and one year of school district finance experience required.

Compensation & Benefits: Salary and benefits are established within the Cabinet Employment Agreement offering a 260 day contract with an annual salary of $172,261 for the 24/25 school year.
