The University of Pittsburgh is seeking a qualified candidate for the Director of Development position to develop and lead the fundraising and engagement strategies in support of the University Library System.
The director will function within a University-wide development and alumni relations effort, working independently and leveraging central resources and collaboration. The director will report to the Hillman University Librarian and Director and to the Assistant Vice Chancellor. The director is responsible for major gift fundraising ($100,000+), including identifying, qualifying and soliciting prospects, and stewarding donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations. This position will be a lead partner with the University Librarian and Director on key initiatives, including an initial library campaign goal of $5M+, and will support priority engagement programming such as the Board of Visitors.
The director must possess an exceptional ability to communicate with a variety of university alumni, donors, faculty, staff, senior leadership and friends. This position requires regular travel and occasional evening and weekend work.

Bachelor’s degreerequired. Master’s preferred. Superior verbal and written skills. Initiative, leadership and the ability to work independently in a goals-oriented environment. At least five years in a major gift environment. Demonstrated experience and knowledge in securing individual major gifts and in stewarding donors. Evidence of direct contact with major gift donors and interaction with academic colleagues. Knowledge of planned giving preferred.
