About Goizueta Business School and the Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement
Created in 1919 as one of the nation’s first business schools, the Goizueta Business School is ranked in the nation’s top tier of business schools. Under the leadership of Dean Erika James, the Goizueta Business School is poised to Go Beyond as it celebrates 100 years of academic excellence and honors the 25th naming anniversary for the school’s namesake Roberto C. Goizueta.
The Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement in the Goizueta Business School seeks a director of corporate relations who will report to the assistant dean for advancement and alumni engagement and senior director of development with a dotted line to the executive director of corporate relations for Emory University. They will serve as a leader on the Advancement and Alumni Engagement (AAE) team at Goizueta Business School, aligning with the school’s broader corporate relations strategies as well as consistently interacting with the dean and the Dean’s Office on all corporate relations matters. The advancement and alumni engagement team is responsible for connecting alumni, corporations, foundations and friends to the Goizueta Business School and Emory University, cultivating, and soliciting them for gifts.
The director of corporate relations for Goizueta Business School will have proven leadership, management, and organizational skills as well as experience in designing and executing comprehensive fundraising processes and procedures. The director will have experience working in a comprehensive campaign setting, including a strong track record of raising major gifts at the $100,000 level and higher from corporations and annual gifts of $25,000 or more from corporations. He or she will possess the personal energy, enthusiasm, and drive to set and achieve ambitious goals. The director will have experience leading a volunteer board and providing strategic framework for the board. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree and previous experience in business school corporate or foundation relations role.
The director will be an effective communicator with strong written and oral presentation skills and the ability to articulate the mission and goals of the school in a compelling manner. The successful candidate must demonstrate a high level of integrity, trust and intellectual curiosity. A self-starter with a sense of urgency and a clear set of priorities, this person will also have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a complex environment. He or she should exhibit the credibility and sophistication to effectively engage and leverage the school’s leadership, faculty, volunteers and other key stakeholders in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of key prospects and donors. Additionally, he or she should be comfortable interacting with C-suite executives and exhibit confidence and sophistication with this cohort.
The director will have extensive experience working with senior fundraising volunteers and will possess the charisma, cultural sensitivity, and communication skills necessary to be an effective representative of Emory and a key liaison to its highly successful alumni base. A collegial, collaborative, and accessible leadership style is a prerequisite, as are the creativity, energy, and the political savvy to navigate a complex academic community as well as the ability to build bridges and strong collaborative relationships across the school, university, and a diverse body of alumni and constituents. The director must demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a part of a dynamic team, with an appropriate sense of urgency and the ability to be detail oriented.
