The Director of Attorney Recruiting will receive a generous total compensation package. Bonuses are awarded in recognition of individual and firm performance. As the Director of Attorney Recruiting at Latham, you will support the strategic initiatives of the firm’s Recruiting Committee with respect to the hiring of summer associates, new associates, and lateral associates for the firm’s offices in the United States. Alongside the Chair and Vice Chairs of the Recruiting Committee, the Director of Attorney Recruiting (the “Director”) provides leadership to the recruiting department and Recruiting Committee members, working closely with practice office and global team members in the Attorney Development Department to develop and implement effective recruiting efforts to ensure that the firm is successful in recruiting top legal talent.

The Director will interface regularly with senior firm management, lawyers at all levels, law school career services, and others, and continually create, develop and implement effective and innovative processes and best practices for all aspects of the recruiting life cycle from pre-law pipeline programs to lateral associate hiring, while accomplishing these and other critical functions:

  • Serving as a trusted advisor and source of institutional and practical knowledge for the Chair and Vice Chairs of the Recruiting Committee. Working with the Chairs in formulating strategic goals for the Committee, enhancing and/or improving Committee processes, discussing substantial policy issues, overseeing the work of various subcommittees and managing the day-to-day business of the Committee
  • Developing short-term and long-term strategies for achieving the firm’s hiring goals in the US.
  • Developing and implementing recruiting policies, procedures, programs and initiatives.
  • Overseeing US law school recruiting efforts, including the management of relationships with career services staff, campus interviews and outreach, and the summer associate program.
  • Overseeing lateral associate recruitment efforts in the US, including developing strategies for sourcing, attracting, hiring and retaining highly-talented and diverse lawyers.
  • Overseeing development of communication and marketing materials, including the careers site, social media, electronic communications, and other types of communications.
  • Collecting market intelligence, conducting research and assessing trends related to attorney recruitment. Staying abreast of developments in recruiting to ensure that the firm’s recruiting program are innovative and effective.
  • Organizing training and guidance in effective and appropriate recruiting and interviewing skills.
  • Analyzing post-season recruiting results and implementing strategic improvements as necessary.
  • Working closely with the Diversity Leadership Committee, strategizing and implementing diversity recruiting initiatives.
  • Developing and managing recruiting budget.
  • Supervising and providing direction to Global Recruiting Department managers, coordinators, assistants and summer interns. Providing training, professional development objectives and feedback to ensure a high standard of performance from all members.
  • Working with the Manager of Recruiting – Europe, Middle East and Asia to ensure that the firm’s recruiting efforts and message are aligned globally.
  • Working with the Directors of Administration to manage and provide guidance to practice office recruiting managers and teams.

A Bachelor’s degree is required. A J.D. or other advanced degree is preferred.

At least five (5) years’ recruitment management experience is required. At least ten (10) years’ recruitment experience in either a legal or professional services environment is desired.
