Purdue University Fort Wayne is seeking a Director of Alumni Relations to connect with the Mastodon Alumni that have been part of the institutions 55 year history. This position will be responsible for the overall leadership and strategic direction of the university's alumni program in partnership with the Mastodon Alumni Association and the development team. The director will be instrumental in conveying a strong alumni relations vision, creating lifelong relationships between the university and its alumni, and will lead the alumni relations team by providing guidance and support necessary for their professional success and development.

  • Conceptualize, design, and implement all aspects of the association's membership acquisition and retention efforts and campaigns. This includes, but is not limited to, developing a detailed plan, creating promotional materials, working with appropriate vendors and tracking the outcome of the various efforts
  • Prepare and analyze monthly and quarterly membership status and alumni demographic reports
  • Research alumni audience to determine appropriate programs, benefits, products, services and campaigns. Utilize statistical analysis tools to analyze growth trend of the Association in forecasting the Association's future direction
  • Work with other alumni and development staff in planning and implementing events intended to increase awareness of affinity and membership in the association
  • Collaborate with staff from the development unit and other university departments as appropriate
  • Develop, manage and monitor the components of the Association budget that are related to marketing, membership recruitment and activities, and member benefits programming.
  • Establish relationships and work collaboratively with the appropriate representatives of the colleges/schools and other university staff to generate interest in the alumni association among alumni and current students of the university. This will include having an Association presence and participation in their events
  • Select and supervise third party vendors for alumni association's benefits package to assure that they are consistent with Association objectives and are fulfilling contractual obligations. Serve as liaison between these vendors and the Association
  • Designs, drafts and coordinates the printing and mailing process of alumni publications to members and non-members, in collaboration with communications and marketing department
  • Oversee the development, maintenance and coordination of the Alumni Association website, and other web-based services. Research and execute techniques to design and promote the website and web-based services to all constituents, in collaboration with the communications and marketing department


  • BA/BS degree
  • Four to five years' experience leading, developing and coordinating membership or affinity driven programs
  • Experience recruiting, training, and developing volunteers
  • Experience with budget administration and financial reporting
  • Supervisory experience
  • High professionalism with good interpersonal skills, and the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with external and internal constituents and stakeholders
  • Must possess effective oral and written communication skills and strong writing, planning and organizational skills
  • Creativity with the ability to take initiative, respond to multiple demands, and pay close attention to details and prioritize
  • Strong institutional affinity and ability to champion the University's mission
  • Solid computer skills with experience using large spreadsheets and data in Excel, as well as proficiency with software and databases
  • Experience planning and executing events
  • Must have valid driver's license and remain in compliance with the Purdue University Motor Vehicle Records Check policy
  • Position requires ability to travel, with some evenings and weekends required


  • Master's degree
  • Experience in alumni relations or other development related discipline ( fund raising, donor relations, stewardship, etc.) in a higher education or comparable professional environment
