We're hiring a Director of Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) for our Patient Care Services department with the University of Chicago Medicine at our main campus in Hyde Park, Chicago, IL.

Here you’ll contribute to the Patient Care Services sector by being the subject expert on all things related to Advanced Practice Nursing.
You are heavily involved in building relationships with our physician leaders and are the voice of UCM on various Advanced Practice Nursing boards.
This role has direct oversight on our 7 APN service lines: Short Stay, ICU, Heart Failure, Chronic Illness, the Leukemia and CAR-T Oncology service lines, and our Trauma Services line which launches its Adult Trauma Services team this Spring.
In this role, the Director of Advanced Practice Nursing is an advanced practice nurse (APN) responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management, supervision of other APNs and APN leaders, and serves as a collaborative member of the unit-based leadership model.
The Director of Advanced Practice Nursing manages a caseload of patients and exercises autonomous decision making in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of delegated medical treatments.
The scope of practice includes family support, discharge planning, staff education, consultation and research. In addition to clinical responsibilities, they will also have direct managerial oversight for the nurse practitioners and assistant managers or managers in the care area.
In conjunction with the patient care managers and medical directors, the Director of Advanced Practice Nursing has responsibility and accountability for planning, organizing and directing the activities related to patient care on the designated unit and within the APN services.
They will also be responsible for setting up and growing new APN service lines and capabilities and attracting, engaging, and retaining highly skilled APNs at UCMC. The Director of Advanced Practice Nursing will be both a clinical and professional resource to the APNs within the Advanced Practice Service.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Must be a graduate from a formal advanced practice nurse program from an accredited academic body.
- Must be certified through the state of Illinois as Licensed Registered Nurse and Licensed Advanced Practice Nurse.
- Holding an APN Controlled Substance license in the state of Illinois is preferred and expected upon employment.
- Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN).
- Requires a minimum of 3 years of experience as nursing leader; experience in an academic medical center is preferred.
- Must successfully complete and actively hold an AHA BLS and ACLS certification.
